Is this a No No???? I think so......
Probably something to do with advertising for personal gain. Something that probably would've been ok a week ago, but know the sailing forum had caught the eye of the mods........

Sad and unfortunate.

I for one can't see a problem with a member mentioning that they have changes in he pipeline and will be selling their boat. If you have any brains you are going to list on one of the commercial boat sale sites or ebay or Gumtree.

From what I have seen the posters on Seabreeze Sailing are a pretty helpful, informative, resourceful and amusing if not riotous lot.

Just tossing the idea around of selling mine and just crewing on other people's boats till I have more time/ experience... and there is a smaller boat I like the look of.

Looks like it was in fact deleted, if you want to post items for sale we recommend using the "Buy and sell" section

Sorry to hear you're thinking of selling your boat McN, you'll have a lot of fun crewing while gaining experience and confidence without the stress and expense associated with having your own yacht. I'm not going to be in the position of looking for another boat for few years atleast but will be moving to the coast next year so will definitely be looking at getting back into some sailing then. I've sailed on large cruisers and race boats and smaller trailer sailers and fixed keel yachts. Have had just as much fun on the smaller boats as the large and seen them go to the same places, two weeks in the Keppels on a twenty one footer comes to mind :), they might be a bit cramped and not so luxuriously appointed but half the fun is adapt and overcome, compromise and innovation. I used to think of it as camping on the water and when you're sitting in the cockpit watching the sunset with a glass of wine to some gentle rocking it's all the same. If I buy in a few years time I'll be looking at something relatively small, easily handled by one, that won't cause me to shed too many tears the day I come in hot to the dock or scrape the bottom. I've seen a lot of big yachts cause expense and stress and sit in harbour, in some cases due to inability to maintain sufficient crew or owners who have the money but not the confidence, time and or ability to sail. I think if your planning a world trip, serious racing or extended coastal cruising then sure there are yachts to fit that purpose but if your just looking at popping in and out of harbour on the weekends and doing the odd few weeks around the islands you don't really need a huge, flash yacht. Best of luck with whatever new adventures come your way.

I'm looking for a larger cruiser purely because a planned extended trip with a young family of 2 boys and a wife who is only entertaining the idea for my sake. I figure the more comfortable I can make them, the better for everyone.
Having said that, there is a lot in what Meg's has just said. I have owned boats 18' to 34' and I have had a lot less stress and a lot more enjoyment on a 21 footer I had.

McNautical, sounds like a strategy.
As a matter of interest, how big is your boat, and what are the main things tempting you to downsize?

Hi samsturdy,

Yep I've been on board McN's yacht and I think she will admit it's to big for her "at this stage" of her sailing career.

Gosh it's to big for me

Her new plan has a lot of sailing it which she isn't getting now.

Do you agree G?

I have no prior experience with yachts. My career was on paddlewheelers, however, now retired, I have decided to learn to sail (on Pittwater).
I bought a 28 ft Santana and I'm as happy as Larry. I have realised that I really don't want to haul the sails up on a 40 footer.
So, yes, I agree.

Thanks all for your thoughts on this..I'm on my boat right now. She certainly isn't luxury but she is roomy inside. She feels good at sea. I feel safe on her. Am yet to take her out solo and I guess that will be the testing of if she's too big for me. I always find getting her in and out of the marina my heart is in my mouth but I don't know how that would change with something smaller. Í don't know.. when I'm here on board I'm very happy I have my own boat. I just met some wonderful ladies at this marina yesterday who have really lifted my spirits and given me renewed inspiration to keep my dream..which may turn into a snaller boat if I stay single

I use ACDSee and FastStone Image viewers but there is also Irfanview. These are ideal for editing photos. FastStone is one of the better ones and is free.
