Hi guys, our insurance is due. We're with Club Marine because they were the only ones that would allow unrestricted single handed sailing. A friend suggested TopSail, but reading the policy last night they specify: "You are covered for navigating single-handed for a period not exceeding 24 hours". So they're out. I rejected Pantaneous last year also because they won't allow single handing after sunset/before sunrise. That's just an Australia thing b.t.w. Asking around the YBW forum revealed that it's allowed in the UK.

Youi, QBE wouldn't insure our boat because the value was too high ($125k).

Any other suggestions that would allow unrestricted single handing?

Gday 2bish,
I'm with Nautilus, and I'm covered for single handed offshore for up to 500nm races.
Cheers,
SB

Your going to hate me for theis.... I have Solo sailing insurance from Pantanious with no night time restriction. How did I get that?
I have a hydrovane www.hydrovane.com once I told them I had one of those the night time restriction was dropped.

Cheers

That's interesting Nige, when did you take out your insurance with them? And do you have additional excess when single handing?

The guy I spoke with alluded to maybe being able to do it depending on equipment, but it would be triple the excess while single handing. I didn't bother to explore it anymore, the excessive excess ?? was an immediate dealbreaker.

As has been said here in numerous other threads about insurance. You judge them by the pay outs. Club Marine have a good reputation with claims. Also Nautilus will not cover swing moorings. No cheap policy is cheap when they won't pay a claim.

Hi 2bish
I had a similar restriction from Pantaenius, but got them to drop it if i paid double the excess if i was single handing at the time of the incident.

Well, l dunno, l am not racing my boat but l am a cruising single hander most of the time.
When l insured the tub l was not asked about single handing, l did not tell, so l think all's well.
