Sometime ago there was a thread about some spaceage insulation, I've tried searching back to no avail. Does anyone know of this product. I'm cutting out the old top loading fridge, which is separated from the freezer by a 15 mm sheet of foamcored stuff and fitting in a standup 12v fridge ( happy wife, happy life!).
To fit the size I want leaves a 50mm gap between the freezer and the new fridge which is needed for air circulation. So the insulation for the freezer will be too thin there, a sheet of this on the inside of the freezer will help insulate it and If the stuff comes thin enough I can afford maybe 10 mm on the outside.
The old system is engine driven which really is a drag, so just keeping the old freezer for extended cruises as the new fridge will have a freezer as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Mooch...I bought a sheet of foam insulation many years ago, about 50mm thick from memory. I think it was from a local
foam shop that stocked foam insul as well as foam cushions. If you can find a foam outlet just give them a call.
I designed a Peltier fridge for a camper van company a few years back. During all the investigations of what insulation to use we found the foam that fruit boxes are made from to pack fruit in for road freight worked well (its designed as a heat insulator) and you can get it free. They use the same stuff for packing fish for freight. Out the back of Woolworths etc theres often stacks of it. Second best is the foam Ikea etc use in their furniture flat packs. My Trek fridge freezer uses that as insulation and most of the time is around -9 Deg C.
