A friend has a used sailboat in NZ however I havnt bothered looking into it as idk the hassle involved importing to Australia.
It's a Davidson 28 which is the same model as the Cavalier 28 here in OZ. Just a slightly different layout.
Has anyone imported a boat? Or can an Australian be a registered owner of a NZ boat? It's about 7-8k NZ.
I have been eyeing a Cav 28 but it's just not in my budget. This could be the right work around if easy enough?
I need to get on with it and purchase something in the next 1-2 months. So I can refit and sail to New Cal and Vanuatu this yr. Solo.
Any advise on these boats? And importing for those who have done so. (Ideally I'd leave us registered in NZ, travel to OZ and then off to pacific. BUT! I thought I red somewhere that Aussie citizen must transfer over to AU reg?
I think NZ registered boats need to meet World Sailing cat 1 offshore safety standards before NZ authorities will give them clearance to leave the country. I guess you would need to check if it already meets that or if that is even possible for the design as a starting point.
