It is best to store the motor upright so that any water in the cooling jacket will drain.
If you store it laying down any remaining water will lay in/on the cylinder head and promote corrosion.
Also if laying down, oil in the cylinders will tend to collect on the spark plugs and foul them.

Would you then service the carby.
Run the engine dry.
Wash tank out, fuel line and carby with metho?
After I wash and clean my motor, what is the next step?
I agree with Cisco....store it upright.
Depends.
If they are runners, plenty of room.
If non runners, not so much.
You pay for freight...naturally,
I would love to know how to transport a small outboard in the car.
Most recently tried standing up my 2hp on the floor behind passenger seat and fastening it to head rest with rope. Needless to say it didn't work, flopped around, banged the seat, and she who must be obeyed was not happy. Next plan, not done yet, was to make something a bit like the outboard stands that dealers and repair shops have.
Trek, how about a rack like are used for push bikes ? If I have to transport my little Honda I hang it off the tail gate of my ute, appears odd but even when laid on the appropriate side it manages to spread oil every where !

Do you know from where on the motor the oil is coming out?
I have a Mazda 'extra', a plastic/rubber tray that fits on the boot flood.
I have spilt soil many times, milk, yogurt, petrol, take a way food and other liquids there.
For approx $100, one of the best investments I have made.
My 2 stroke is 2002 model. Its got better with age.
I now store it outside lying down in the rain. Seems to start better.
