Young man Christian, aged 16, who has dreamed of sailing since a kipper, has been offered the great opportunity of a berth as a youth crew member on the STS Young Endeavour in October 2017 to take part in their not-for-profit youth development programme. As he doesn't have the resources to cover his voyage fees, a crowdfunding project has been set up to help him get on board.

If anyone is willing to contribute even a few bucks to help get the lad on his dream voyage where he will be learning to sail and crew a tall ship, your help would be hugely appreciated.
Here's the link to the project:

Thanks all!

When he is on "The Young Endeavour" he should wear his safety harness at all times when on deck and his chastity belt at all times when below deck.

This is a safety bulletin proudly brought to you by "The Bundy Buggers".

Hi Cisco

That sounds like a bit of a accusation that there is some dodgy stuff happening on that ship

My eldest son sailed on young endeavour several years ago from melbourne to adelaide had the time of his young life picked him up at the airport and he was just pinging

Young Endeavour is a great program with which I have been closely involved in past years.
However, I have serious misgivings with a anonymous fund raising campaign based on a Seabreeze post by someone who is making their first post here. You would be safer buying bitcoin than giving money to this.

It appears the voyage cost is $1950 yet the fundraising target is $2500

To be fair, if this is genuine the target included the costs of getting the kid to and from the boat as well.

This is certainly genuine and could be verified directly with Young Endeavour on 1800 020 444.
It is simply an open request for assistance from anyone willing to help a young person attain a potentially life-altering goal of sailing a tall ship and experiencing life on the ocean.

Families sometimes struggle to come up with fees when these opportunities arrive at short notice.

There are a few other young people sailing on Young Endeavour with the same issue who have set up similar GoFundMe or MyCause crowdfunding campaigns, for example www.gofundme.com/f/the-young-endeavour-voyage

It appears that they have some financial assistance berths available where the fee is reduced to $650.00 if you meet certain criteria

Yes unfortunately financial assistance is very limited as it requires being a Centrelink recipient.

"To be eligible for Financial Assistance, you must be receiving a Centrelink benefit such as Newstart Allowance"
( from www.youngendeavour.gov.au/voyage-and-fees )

The fundraising target on the MyCause crowdfunding page clearly indicates that it is aimed at voyage fees and realistic associated travel costs; in any case the target is unlikely to be reached, so is just an aim.

So back to anyone who might like to help share a love of the ocean with a young person wishing to learn and have a possibly life-changing experience... and please just ignore if no interest.

Here's the link again, and no stress intended to anyone:
