The time for my departure on my adventure around the world is fast approaching. One thing I promised my wife I would do before I leave was to get rid of the boat I originally planned to do the adventure in which is sitting in our backyard.
It's a Duncanson design 33 foot cruiser/ racer with a lifting keel. Built by me under John Duncanson's supervision. There is still a bit of work to finnish it off so it would suit someone or a group who had the skills or contacts do make a bulb for the keel and a few other bits and bobs. The main thing is I want it to go to someone who will sail it.
Oh my, well aren't you the quiet one, Andy??!!! Love the way you just casually drop that little bombshell on the Seabreeze community
.
Good on you. Tell us more
Can you tell me a bit more about the build and your location. What do you have and what still needs doing etc. any pics on the interior?
Nice looking build

Well Ive had a few false starts in the past I was planning to leave in 2009 originally, so many things got in the way and I put it off so I didn't want to say too much too soon. Anyway now all the kids have grown up and I have been able to find a ten month window, thanks to my wife, so I'm going before I get too old
or something else happens.
So the plan is to leave in October go under NZ then under Cape Horn then I want to pass my antipodal point in the Atlantic, However there is no island to round so either I get to the point and turn around or sail for another week or 2 to round one of the Azores Islands then under Cape of Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin, Southwest Cape (Tas) then home to the Gold Coast.
Ok Andy, so what is your web site name, surely we don't have to wait until you get back to hear all about it?
Love to do, too bloody old now!

The boats at my house on the Gold Coast. The design is an evolution of some 30 foot racer/ cruisers John Duncanson deigned and built. The hull is strip planked balsa core with 600g double bias e glass epoxy sandwich. the deck and cockpit is 20mm AAA marine ply with 600gram epoxy glass. All the interior is fiited out and ever part of the interior forms a part of the structor of the hull so it is superstrong which was important to me.
The keel is solid unidirectional and double bias layers with 20mm stainless threaded rods that extend the full 2.4 metres from a 10mm stainless plate on top the keel through to the bulb which hasn't been built yet. Set up for a deck stepped mast with a tabernacle. There is some damage to the deck where someone stole the jib tracks and left the holes in the weather. One of the windows is cracked. I have installed a bed for a volvo saildrive. All the stainlees work needs to be done. I have a mast and boom would sell them either with the boat or as a separate item.
I ended up having an allergic reaction to the epoxy and the time I spent building the boat was an issue so it was a struggle to finnish then one day I made a ridiculous offer for an S and S 34 and to my surprise the seller accepted so I've had a change of plans because it was much easier for me to make sure the S and S is sea worthy than it was to finnish the boat.
Here's a pic of the inerior I took I will put some better ones up later.

what an adventure to miss out on.
She's probably thinking 'good job I increased the life insurance on him'.....mind you, it doesn't
pay for a bloke to be worth more dead than alive.
I am stunned Andy!!
My best wishes for you on your upcoming adventure. I am sure we all on Seabreeze look forward to hearing of your progress.
That would need some fancy communication gear. Any hints??

Thanks Cisco. As well as HF Radio I'm looking at some pretty good satellite plans but I 'm hoping they will get better.
I am very impressed.
Got to love the quiet achievers.
All the very best of luck, we will all be with you in spirit.

I did have satellite but got far too exy. Bought a pactor modem instead and hooked it up to my Barrett HF and joined sailmail. $250 US dollars per year for all the email you care to send and receive, including grib files and blog posts to keep friends and family informed.
It works really well world wide even around the horn, Falklands, S.Georgia. See sailmail.com
Blogsite I use is blogspot and is free to set up and you can send posts via a secret email address.
What is the name of your boat?
Looking forward to following your voyage,
