A note of caution for the 100 plus yachts moored in Five Dock Bay, Sydney. Last night after a days work on my boat i decided to stay on board and go out for a sail today (Sunday) but when i walked on deck to enjoy my morning coffee, it took a moment or two. but i soon realised that some low life, thieving **** head, had stolen my 2.6 mtr inflatable and Mercury outboard.. Thank you to the Water Police for the lift back to the dock and there help, (couple of really nice guys). and to the pricks that stole my inflatable, i hope your boat sinks.....

I don't think that they would necessarily restrict themselves to Five Dock Bay. It may have been just an opportunistic grab, but more likely an ass wipe looking for some quick cash. I'd keep searches on Ebay, Gumtree and the like for the next year using relevant keywords.
its a pity you cant use rule 303 if you ever did find them.

While you're asleep they took it? Lame. I'm in wood ford bay and stuffs going missing. Another reason to go back to pittwater.
Its always a shame when a good kid goes bad.
The other day, middle of the day i was on my yacht on a mooring working on the engine and i heard an outboard idling by. next thing i hear the boat come along side so i go up on deck and some bloody prick is trying to undo my painter line from my dinghy on the back of the boat. Of course when confronted with a big spanner in my hand the guy in the boat gets defensive saying he was just checking to see if every thing is ok as he hasn't seen any one on deck for a while. Then he tries to tell me that he thought it was a mates boat and he was just having a joke. I told him that i was reporting him to the BSO in our area and the police. He took off pretty quick with me giving him some verbal. Unfortunately his tinny had no rego and the BSO could not do any thing. Any way I told a few other guys in our bay and we have agreed to keep a closer eye on each others boats and one guy who can see the boats from his house will check them through binoculars each morning and keep a closer eye out for suspicious lights at night. He did say there are heaps of fishos in the harbour at night and they are all in among the moorings. I guess keep things locked up as good as you can and stop the opportunistic thefts. Don't hide the cabin key in the obvious spots. Thats Sydney for you. Hope you get your Dinghy back

i figure it was a fisho on his way back to the boat ramp at frenchs forest as that is the way he took off and he had fishing rods in his boat. The police were very polite but said as there was no crime committed they could not do much about it. So I just let it drop. I think he just saw the dinghy tied to the back of the boat, maybe watched for a while and when he didn't see any body on deck thought he might help himself to a nice dinghy. Don't really know why as there are hundreds of them along the foreshore.
If you had jumped into his boat and punched him out the police would have then said a crime had been committed no doubt.

Weird someone would do that. Daylight and a dinghy tied to boat would mean someone's on it. I bought a piece of crap wooden dinghy. Sits in the mangroves. Steal at your own risk. Probably fall apart on ya.
Had the tinnie stolen last month from Glades Bay, couldn't have been easy or quiet cutting the chain.
Spent $130 at Whitworths on a very cheap inflatable to get me mobile again.
A word of caution about tieing up to the jetty at the Sydney Fishmarkets. We spent the afternoon tied up there and decided to stay tied up over night when a southerly blew up.
Later that night I woke to the sound of someone jumping into our cockpit and my wife shouting "hey". They seemed to piss off quickly and we could see them at a distance join a few other people who were holding rods waiting for them. Not sure if they were fishos or had just knocked off those rods from somewhere else. 
Had a mooring in Mangles bay WA, got myself the ugliest tiny I could find and left it on the beach, never got stolen. I had a decent small inflatable on the boat that I would keep in the cabin deflated.
We got em up my way too. They knock off everones crab pots and fiddle with boats n steal outboards n tenders. There's a bunch of transient weirdo druggies living up one of the local creeks.
its a real shame. im starting to like being in syd harbour after moving down from pittwater.
I leave my outboard locked in place on my 22 foot bluebird, but id expect it to get nicked still.
ive got a real dodgy wooden dinghy thats partially rotten and partially repaired from my cutting the rot out. no one would want it.
im also possibly protected by the fact my boats pretty close to houses and i know the people in the houses who also have their boats out there. theyre always keeping an eye out.
Alot of these boat crooks sound brazen though. Its easy pickings i guess if youre a thief.
Has anyone used a outboard motor lock? I'm about to copy one from the WWW and give it a try! Using a steel tube padlock and some Christian science.
Trouble is these days a battery powered angle grind will cut any thing in less than 60 seconds.
I borrowed one to get me dingy unlock from a post on the beach it had rusted up it took less than 30 seconds to cut free
I gave it to mangrove frog on my way past a while back no one would steel that dingy.
This photo was taken when I first brought the Yacht by the time Magrove frog inherited it one side was hanging off . Probally looks like as million dollars after mangrove gave it a tidy up 
Id rather buy a high voltage coil off an old mercury out board 60,000 volts will soon sort them out if its wired up correctly

And of course you would stand by your actions if someone, either guilty or not happened to be killed by your device? They could have a weak heart or have a pacemaker fitted or any other medical condition you care to name.
Hardly seems like a fair swap for a small boat.
My lock for dinghy rusted and i was able to cut through quick with battery saber saw. Luckily for me this would make noise and boat owners looking over bay 50 metres from boat eould hear.
Think hg02 was just speculating loosey. Modern man and modern laws make us think twice in reality . If it was still cave man times, my kids would be munching on boat thief chops for dinner.

I wish i had a million dollars, id buy a private jetty or beach hut so i could fix that dingy.. its too heavy to pull up on deck to repair that side. I still use it as it is.
Ive got a loud alarm siren, i want to rig up a infra red sensor to activate it instead of magnetic companionway trip.
Ive had my rods nicked and few bits.
Particulary tourists love to jump on board for photo opportunity.. then they make themselves comfortable.. they get insulted by the way i tell them to hoof it but seriously, they stress my stanchions jumping on and off.. and.. well, ive never made my self comfortable in anyones property like that so i wouldnt know how to get used to it other than using a deterent hopefully they are wearing pants when they sift themselves.

There is no amps in that 60,000 volts Loose Change only volts amp's kill you mate not the volts

My previous yacht had an outboard mounted on the transom. I made a Stainless steel fitting that prevented access to the padlock. I copied the design from similar units used by the local council. You only have to make it look like too much work and other boats a more attractive proposition.

@ loose change, yeah I know...I agree there are some crazies out there. Think lots of people go for the nasty signs and the blinking led light that looks like a mock security light at night too.
