Now I know why they put anchor lockers above the water-line!

Hi Archenar
A towel stuffed around the chain inlet pipe would have done wonders.

I enjoy watching vids like this and thinking, "What would I do in that situation?"
Easy when you are sitting in the comfort of home.

I wonder if he could not heave too for a short while, to give him time to go on the foredeck and stuff that towel around the chain inlet pipe, and have the boat come reasonably upright so his bilge pump could get rid of the water.

That was my first thought as well. Perhaps it makes for more interesting viewing if their is a drama unfolding.

Yes I have a feeling that the extra drama is what he (and so many youtubers) was after.

Actually he didn't need to heave to or go on deck,
He showed the internal access to the chain locker.
Reach in, stuff in a towel and a few socks and sail on a lot drier.

Yep Eriks got some skills with the camera. Some of his past sails to the islands are awesome. Looking forward to see if he stays on course with his plans and goes on to Greenland this year.

Big Fanboy of Eriks & as a soloist with almost the same setup I learn so much from this guy. I really love how he frames his approach, but more importantly his attitude. Not sure why he always bangs on about no plan B though, I rarely have Plan A occur without a hitch & especially when I get water in the boat or have to be attached to the helm my brain just kicks into focusing on the now and planning the how.

Perhaps a thread on how we have overcome ****ty obstacles would be informative - mine from last Sunday - 25knots with 2 reeves entering tight outer harbor with big container ship having to do a tight turn directly ahead. I drop jib; start motor and try to stall upwind...when holy ships an errant spinnaker line fouls prop. Yikes... bring out jib & beat directly upwind and into 2m seas. Plan B - sail to safe inner harbor 3km away - drop sails & anchor & cut lines & hope no gearbox damage. Plan C roll out tender attach motor fix to sugar scoop hope 6hp enough to steady in 25knots. Yup, living the dream of stuff ups and Plans B C D

No plan B as he then proceeds to radio in to coast guard . Great sailor very good videos but his commentary sometimes fails his own NBJS motto. Also how many years do you need for yesterdays terrorists (Vikings) to become today's legends? Will our far-off descendants one day have cute little festivals dressed in Nazi uniforms and no one will be offended?

Just an empire that has come and gone just like so many...saxons, vikings normans...it is only from the perspective of a briton that would see them as a negative. For anyone from either heritage would perhaps see it as a golden age...just as the british empire was up until the 2nd world war.

I think it would be a lot of fun being there at the festival. Good on them for holding onto their traditions and heritage.

As for plan B I think it is probably that Erik has a destination and no matter what the ocean throws at him, he will try to get there. Would love to sail to these islands. Looks pretty cold though.

I like his videos, he prepares well and is very determined. As for the leak through the chain locker and down through mast or any leak on a boat for that matter they are the pits and my pet hate. I had leaks in my last boat and when it rained stuff getting wet really sucks. Can be tricky to fix too.
