Hi,
I have an Engel Smart Battery Box that I wanna use with a Century Marine Pro battery. I use the battery to start a Yanmar 8hp diesel engine. Is it ok to use the battery in the box to start the engine?
thanks :)
Batteries in boats should always be in boxes or at the very least have a cover over the terminals so you don't accidentally rest some tools there!

As long as the battery you put in the box is designed to crank that size engine it's no problem.
My Yanmar 8 HP spins over and starts with a very small car battery.
Don't know the size offhand.
Try to keep the cables as short as you can and you will be fine.

Maybe also just check that the connection you use from the smart-box is rated for the current draw. Those boxes usually have a number of different outlets, not all of which can take starter amps (due to the piddly little wiring they have built-in). Yours probably has an Anderson plug (rated for 50A) and a set of screw down terminals (rated for 100A). I've no idea what your starter would draw, but I'd be using the screw terminals, or direct to the battery.
Thank you everyone. I connected the engine directly to the terminal on the battery as the plugs on the box are rated much lower as speller pointed out. Thank you everyone :) Happy sailing.
