Thumbs Up

Hi All,
After bouncing up and down on the bottom of the Swan River the other day I thought I should invest in a depth sounder.
I have a VDO Sumlog and blank and thought I could repurpose the through hull for a depth sounder. I don't mind not knowing how fast I'm going and the display is knackered anyhow.
Thoughts on this?
All the cheaper depth sounders seem to be transom mounted. I presume they are directional so dangling them out through a suitable modified and watertight Sumlog blank wouldn't work?
Cheers!

To use your blank you'll probably have to stump up for a yachty style system sounder.
From memory most standard thru hulls are 1 1/2".
Have a look on gumtree for a 2nd hand unit.
We got one from someone upgrading their yacht package for peanuts years ago and it's never missed a beat!
