In the States there are a few semi formal groups who put on the Everglades challenge and the Texas 200.
I always though that The Broadwater up to Brisneyland and beyond would be a perfect venue for this type of event.
Are Ozzies too busy to pull something like this off?
Gary
HI Gary,
I think these style of events are a fantastic idea, I'm actually surprised that we do not already some similar event with some Aussie idiosyncrasies thrown in.
Agree, the Broadwater would be a great place to do it.
The annual Surf to City race course for the smaller boats goes up the same patch of water, and it's incredibly popular and a lot of fun.
Hmmm.. I wonder...
There is new sailing organisation formed in Qld, and the first two events in planning are an event exactly like this and a silver rudder type event.
The events are been arranged with community groups and local councils and not yacht clubs.
Think of a fun run on the water for everyone
I remember doing car rallies when I was a kid with YMCA. You'd pile the families into their cars and give them a set of navigation points with cryptic questions to answer and various 'evidence' that needed to be collected around the course.
It would often end up in hilarity, people getting lost, cars breaking down, the differing 'evidence' and answers that were presented, it was the most popular event of the year.
I've often wondered how you could do that in a 'yacht race', I reckon it would be great fun
Wow shaggy that jolted a memory.
My brother and I scrambling around the base of a pine tree on the Mornington Peninsula looking for pine cones.
That was one of the pick ups that we had to do on the rally.

Lydia, you wouldn't happen to know the name of the organisation?
i would be keen to participate in this style of event.
There is the bay to bay race, Tin Can Bay to Hervey Bay for trailer sailers. Overnight stop off at Gary's anchorage. It is on my bucket list.
