Survey, tickets, licencing and insurance's to name a few. Don't have all the ducks lined up and maritime WILL eat you alive.

Any boats in survey are usually built to survey, hard to do after being built for non commercial use.
The biggest problem is always the turkeys you will have to deal with. You will get to meet some interesting people!

I went through this process of survey after build. For example, the authorities will need to cut two 30cm holes in the hull to assess the structure. If your boat wasn't built to survey it isn't worth it.
If there are boats from the same manufacturer of exactly the same design already in survey then core samples from fibreglass hulls may not be required. As always it depends a lot on who you deal with. There are only a handful of MSB surveyors and they need boats in survey to keep their jobs. Commercial fishing vessel numbers have fallen drastically and so have fishing charter boats. They need new people to torture!
even if the boat is built to survey and it has lapsed under the new amsa rules the vessel must comply with the new legislation this means a complete rebuild a full set of survey plans 30 footer about $ 20000 more than likely new tanks and fuel supply increased safety gear and that is if she meets stability and flooded compartment rules
bringing an existing boat to survey is more expensive than building new unless the planets align fiberglass is very hard because of records of laminating steel is the easiest timber not to bad but problems with tanks(must be bunded)
BUY IN EXISTING SURVEY FOR THE REQUIRED PURPOSE otherwise expect massive bills

If you search there are a few booking agencies in Sydney who the boats book through maybe contact them

I went through that as many S&S34s from Swarbricks were built to survey. No dice from RMS, theywill need to drill the cores. One near the keel, where it is up to 15cm thick, and one elsewhere. The very thought of it gave me the shivers.
