Can any one help. I am wanting to purchase a Catalina 32 or 34 but have not sailed one as yet only read many items. Have sailed many trailer sailors. Spent many sailing hours on a Hunter 54.
So I guess what I am asking is there anyone out there that would be kind enough if they have a 32 or 34 in the Sydney area be able to take me out for a trial run.

A friend has one I have sailed on it a couple of times. His is the deep keel version. His sails are very old but the boat has the ability to be very fast i would say his would be close in speed to a far1020.
Heaps of room and I think comfortable.
I am presently overseas so can't see about you getting on it sorry.

We are about to put our Catalina 28 on the market.
Its a 1993 model in good condition with new sails (including MPS) regularly serviced $49000

Or my S&S34 might be of interest to you if you want an ocean going passage maker.

The Catalina and your S&s are very different beast.

My point exactly. If you really want to make a passage get the S&S.

A Catalina 32 or 34 are no where as quick as a Far 1020. ( We have had several of each in our club) The shoal draft Catalinas are dogs to windward, so if you are considering any social or twilight racing don't even consider the shoal draft. My father had a Catalina 34 fin keel and had no issues. He did the Whitsundays trip a number of times as well as social raced it. They are a good all round boat which are very comfortable for their size. P.S. I would take the Catalina any day over the S&S. On the other hand I would take a good Far 1020 over the Catalina.
