Hi again, this may have been covered before but I'm asking for my brother. He's looking at buying a daysailor and one looks like coming up in the bay where my boat is. There is no current waiting list but we all know this can change.

Has anyone dealt with RMS in this situation? It's a bit of a vicious circle. He'll only buy the boat with that mooring but can't apply for a mooring until he has the boat. Has anyone actually spoken to a BSO to get this confirmation before a purchase? The waiting list has only gone to zero in the last couple of weeks so I can only assume there aren't many vacant moorings.

Thanks, Geoff

you don't need a boat to go on the waitlist.

once you reach the top of the waitlist you have a few weeks (i can't remember the exact amount of time) to have a boat registered in your name.

also, there has been a much faster turnover of moorings since RMS have been cracking down on mooring minders...

I am pretty sure you get 30 days to have a boat on the mooring once you get it.

i just checked my paperwork. once you are offered a mooring you have 45 days to have a boat registered in your name, and to finalise the application and pay the required fee.

So make the application and probably they'll let the boat stay on the same mooring, makes sense I guess. I'll pass it on...

if you are wanting the boat to stay on the same mooring, have a chat with RMS Rozelle about it. you can organise it so that when you reach the end of the waitlist, the current mooring licensee relinquishes the mooring and you take it over. i did exactly that a few months ago.

Back in 2005 when I bought MB I left her on her existing mooring. We didn't transfer the rego hntil I was top of the waiting list.

If there's no waiting list they will do the transfer on the spot. That's what happened to me. If he is real nervous about it just do the purchase at the service NSW desk at the same time as mooring transfer.
