Hey,

I'm thinking about moving my jacht to marina, and the ones i'm thinking of is
- Horizon Shores Marina
- East Coast marina (mainly)
- Rivergate

Cheapest option would be Horizon Shores Marina and the question is how convenient is going in and out from that marina to do some sailing? I have feeling that i will be doing 1-2hours of motoring before i can open sail because channels there are not too wide and then the same on the way back.

The question about rivergate would be the same - how hard is going up the stream of brisbane river and also share this river with all big ships? would be that pain in the ass to go in and out from there?

East coast looks the best of them - but also most expensive :)

Hi Mareekn,
Rivergate is a good 6 nm from the mouth of the river now, so you'd add 2 hours to get out and back in.
Horizon , sorry , not much help to you there I'm afraid.
I'm at Manly and yet live near Redcliffe, and its expensive but the sailing options are really good. Tangalooma is the same distance as from QCYC if I remember correctly, and then you have Peel and the south end of the bay, its really cool.
What about QCYC? Or MBTBC?
Good luck with it regardless!

QCYC - doesn't have any 15m berth free
MBTBC - I want to spend a night or two on the boat per week, and looks like they doesn't allow it at all Thank you so much! really appreciate!

Horizon Shores
Good News
Access to HSM not an issue.
Lots of facilities available at Horizon Shores and lift out/ in fees reasonable.
There are enough businesses there to get multiple quotes for maintenance etc.
Family gets two boats antifouled and serviced there and charges fair . 50ft and 20ft.
On site cafe has some pretty good meals at reasonable cost.
Bad News
A good 1.5 /2 hrs to get to relative open sailing and that depends on tidal flow. By same token if wind blowing right way hoisting a headsail not a problem
Personally If not for fact I get free parking for boat and misses I would look at manly/shorncliffe

Hi there

I've just gone through the process on the north side.

QCYC doesn't take liveaboards anymore.

Scarborough has a number of options.
Newport, Moreton Bay Boat Club, Compass and Scarborough Marinas.

Newport and MBBC both allow liveaboards. Factoring in membership fees for MBBC, mooring and liveaboard fees work out about the same. These two are the least expensive of the four in Scarborough.

Compass' liveaboard quota is full and there is a waiting list, however, if you only want to stay on board occasionally and are discreet, you'd probably be okay.

Scarborough Marina no longer take permanent liveaboards. Not sure about transient cruisers?

It's a whole lot quieter up this end of town with immediate access to Moreton Bay.

I'd look at MBTBC again. There are live aboards there and many itinerants live on their boats. However it won't be cheaper than East Coast.

I dont disclose that I'm a liveaboard . It's getting a bit out of control. If they have paper work that you need too tick to confirm your a livaboard fine and some charge a liveaboard rate... Other than that say nothing and have a ground address you live at.

What's the pros of MBTBC then ? Is there any reason that east coast is cheaper?

Facilities aren't as good but is still adequate. I didn't think East Coast allowed live aboards. I'm at MBTBC and sleep on my boat occasionally.

I spent three months at MBBC at Scarborough few years back at a friend's pen living on the tub most of the time.
The live-aboard charge was $128/month which is negligible!
They have 15 meter monsters penned up there.
It is a nice club full of helpful people starting with Mr. Mason-Cox.

Anything on the Brisbane river you have to factor in the current when berthing , I m told it can be a nightmare

Our boat is at horizon shores , lots of motoring to go for a sail

This. The local RYA school use Rivergate to demonstrate keel lift. You pull up off one of the outside fingers, dump sails then sail the boat onto and off the finger using the current flow running over the keel.
You can easily "sail" upstream past the mooring using the current at Rivergate.
