Bit confusing .
YB tracker does not show Fusion (Shaggy) on map . but shows 4th line honours whereas marine traffic shows Shaggy just behind leader
Smuggler

Not updating all the boats at the same time
There can be up to 30 minutes between updating boats beside each other in real terms.

The Hamo race tracker seems up date some boats before all others

As for Shaggy, suspect he got dropped off the tracker for other reasons.

Still fighting, 2nm behind Kerisma and Night Nurse. Our YB tracker is not showing , the UK office will resolve overnight apparently.
winds are pretty naff, 15'ish at 150 twa so we're running our small 150m2 vmg kite for the night.
see if we can pull back Kerisma and nnight Nurse, Matrix, Javelin are down to leeward and behind :) Ragtime on our beam.
just another few knots of wind .....oh please oh please

Hi BB,
We had to leave with one crew member short which caused some issues, thankfully the only real consequence was we destroyed a kite and halyard but didn't hurt anyone.
We limped the last 50 miles running 160's with a reaching kite, so I was pretty happy with the 4th on line honours.
Best boat speeds of 13-17 knots in 20-25 kn of breeze running deep in the pitch black conditions (no moon and cloud cover) made driving pretty interesting, you had to steer down the moment you felt the boat heel to stop the broach, or up as soon as the mast stood up to prevent the gybe.
Heading home today, shower then back up on Wednesday to get the boat home.
Love the hospitality up here, the volunteers and locals are just awesome, and the marina is only $50 a night with great facilities.
Thanks to my crew and all the volunteers for another good year.

Hey Rumblefish, I need a quote on a new spinnaker halyard mate, 60mtrs x10mm dyneema , will pm details to you, thanks!

Ah, well you did well. I thought you must have rationed out the rum early the way you tracked the last 50 miles or so

Now I have never done a long race in a boat with wheel steering and have always meant to ask how a helmsman ,like above, can stand for a three or four hour shift and not lose focus or become totally stuffed knowing in three or four hours time you'll have to do it all over again.
Especially when it's a bit hairy and dark.
At least with tiller you are sitting and in most cases can brace with legs when necessary.
I converted a 27 footer from tiller to wheel because it looked cool and turned out to be the biggest pita.

Yep, I know what you mean. The maximum I've done in one stint is 8 hours, and I was pretty stiff and sore, my lower back was really locked. The biggest difference I have noticed as I've spent more hours on the helm is being able to relax by using your balance. I was always near rigid on one leg and the other slightly bent, after a few hours I was just rooted. The key was to focus on my balance so I could keep both legs straight using the incline step (like Ian in the pic). All of a sudden the fatigue level dropped way down, and a few hours is pretty easy. 90 mins is about a comfortable rotation for drivers when racing.

If we're racing really hard no way can I drive sitting. It's like trying to drive a car fast from that position, it just doesn't work. Medium and low winds it's fine and super comfortable to sit.

Autohelm is wickedly good though for deliveries, it's actually more fun to leave it on autohelm in most sea states and wind..
