So, most trawling these forums have a boat, a percentage of those would be boats capable of coastal cruising? With our current situation, how many have had the thought cross their mind of:
a) Easter holidays joined to Anzac day and ... sail north
b) take some of that annual/long service leave and ....sail north
c) I'm not working and can....sail north
d) Take that sabbatical that I've been dreaming about and ... sail north
e) Generally running the idea of.... sailing north.. and planning a way to do so
Personally, all I say is.... I went and brought a few more water containers to store on deck, and unfortunately there were out of 20ltr Diesel containers, so if anyone has a couple kicking around, let me know!!
I'll swap a diesel for a water 20L. heading off myself soon.
Tough call ?? could do..... however I think I use more water than diesel, though I've never caught diesel in a raincatcher off the covers, but I'd prefer if it didn't rain.... conundrum ... What's your MMSI number we could trade on route, at a safe distance of 1.5mtr of course
One thing to consider is ports closing.
All ports are closed in the Med,and many other places. Oz seems to be a week behind and making all the same decisions/mistakes. It does sound good though!
All state governments are saying stay at home and RESTRICT any unnecessary travelling.
That means boats as well !!!!![]()
Most are now looking for places to hunker down for the duration.
There are all sorts of restrictions on using some marinas and some have closed their doors!
If you have a boat and crew that can stay at sea for 18 months you may have a viable plan . If not you will be screwed , just like the rest of us .
Obviously with restrictions in place, one would take self-isolation seriously. If the boats stocked for a week or two at a time, no social interaction with others for the duration beside provisioning, then it's no worst than being on land on a house where likelihood of interaction has a higher chance.
Travel restrictions are obviously in place for the % of people that don't take it seriously.
Forty years ago a book was written on just this scenario by Luke Rhinehart (George Cockroft)

I read it then and it is still with me.
Escaping on a yacht is not as easy as you might think.
Fuel? Spares? Friendly locals?

I took off last year in a 25ft trailer sailer to Airlie Beach. It's not all that hard. Shoalwater is the toughest section with some big currents and waves but still did it fine. Plenty of places to anchor in the middle of nowhere. Only had 50L of water. Just used for drinking.

Wonderflux, did you have enough toilet paper or were you using Neptune's bountiful bidet overboard?
I'm hoping to. Repairs going well I've allocated a week as a minimum., so I am thinking of a leisurely stooge around Hervey Bay and maybe a swim off Great Keppel.
There lots of places in Hervey Bay to keep me occupied without needing civilization. I'd like to push further but Mrs SB gets a say in that bit.
Will be great just to get on the water for a few days. It will feel both weird but good to pop off the grid for a week, the kids could do with a break from all the doom and gloom as a minimum.
Hehe. I'm in Norway but flights keep getting cancelled and airports keep getting closed. Might have to sail home! Easily 14 days' self-quarantine.

hey shaggy i was thinking the same thing if we get completely locked down and not allowed to work i was thinking a nice cruise to the keppels pagan is good for 6 weeks at sea with out docking for food or water already have dry stores just need to top up water then off
Going cruising north was our Plan B and just hanging around Port Stephens, but my wife is in contact with cruisers who are finding water and fuel sources locked down.
Went North through the Canaipa Passage Sunday Monday, lots and lots of people self isolating on their boats, seems like a good plan if all onboard are on the same page, and enjoy the isolating factor.
