Any ideas where to get 5kg block ice these days (Sydney, inner west)? Back in the day could get from lots of servos, now cannot find. Tried lidcombe ice out at sefton who sell it, but too great a hike.... trying to get a bit more sustained refrigeration.

Frozen ice cream container shaped ice works well if you had the freezer space.

Some marinas still do, especially if they have a fishing club attached. RMYC at Pittwater have it.

Block ice is getting tough to find. Its no longer sold anywhere in Adelaide, although when I was in Port Lincoln it was available from any servo.

I've reverted to freezing water in 3 litre milk jugs. The bonus is that my esky stays dry when they thaw.

Thanks All - some good tips. Have some freezer reorganising to do to get the 2L/3L bottles in. Cheers all.

One solution if you want to keep ice for a long period, is to keep two eskys one for the ice, one for the drinks etc.

Just top the drinks esky as required. What kills ice is the constant opening of the esky, flooding the contents with warm air.
