Anyone know the area of the sails on the Australian cherubs
Also on our boat the bow sprit line and the halyard are two separate ropes to pull, I have seen on the newer boats that they just pull the halyard and the bow sprit and the kite go out. How do they rig the lines so that it does that
Thanks in advance.

This Ronstan system answers the question regarding hauling on one line and the kite goes up and the bow sprit prodder goes out and the kite tack goes out. Suggest checking with the Cherubs in you area if they are using this system or an improved version?

On the cherub.org.au site the jib area is listed as 3.25sqm which is 34.98sqft. This correlates with other web links which stated that the jib was increased in area by about 8sqft in early 1970, from the original Spencer design 27sqft - which is mentioned here.

But don't go to UK Cherub sites they made it a different boat for reasons only known to themselves.

So the original design main and jib areas were 62sqft and 27sqft as far as I can conclude.

The Aust Cherub rules are here;

The main and kite areas on this cherub.org.au site are not listed - just maximum luff foot and leech measurements for the main, and perimeter for the asymm kite. The asymm kite is significantly bigger in area than the old symm kite.

You could draw out the main with the max luff and foot lengths, and 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 chord length limits to work out the area - but the head roach dimension is needed also. Easy to do.
