Hi all
Just thought I would ask the question to see if any of the forum members have been affected by the bushfires and give thanks to the fire fighters who have been working to contain them and all of those who have been helping out in evacuation centres ect
This time last year when the tassie fires were happening we were evacuated for about 4 days and although we believed our property was fairly safe it was a stressful time and after attending the daily up date meetings with the emergency services people sometimes I could see that others at the meetings whose properties were under direct threat were getting frustrated and angry by the seemingly lack of new information that we were being told each afternoon about were the fire front was
Myself and my wife work at the local Council who set up a evacuation centre and it was a mammoth task to run it and provide for the needs of all who were there and the their animals
Hopefully conditions will help the firies get it under control
Regards Don
My old club at Batemans Bay was almost in the fire zone when there was spotting in the bushes on the dunes. When you need a Skycrane waterbomber to save sailing clubs you know things are bad. I fear that a couple of members may well have lost houses, and that one lost a shop. The club itself was used as an animal evacuation centre, with horses etc in the hard standing yard and other animals inside.
The club is sponsored by JJ's restaurant at the marina. When evacuees were crowded in town, JJs just got their kitchen going and handed out free food until their larder was bare. Damn good effort!
