I am assuming this may be the original fuel shut off but I tried to turn it off and it's now stuck closed.
It's always looked a bit damp so I want to replace it rather than strip it and see if I can free it.
I can't see anything like it at Whitworths or another Marine shop I tried and nothing on Bunnings online so am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction?
It doesn't have to be the exact same at all, I just need to be able to turn off the fuel if needed so something on the same principal will do.
Its 5/16 on the barbed end and probably 1/2 or 3/8 or the screw in thread but I won't know until I drain the tank and get it off tomorrow.

Cheers

Hi, a small 1/4 turn stainless steel ball valve will work fine. Available in a longer handle or a wingnut style handle, 304 or 316. There are at least three suppliers near me (probably more) so you should be able to find something nearby.

I went through exactly the same thing, I had exactly the same tap. Leaking. Took me three attempts at getting it right. Emptying the tank each time. Was losing the will to live. I tried various el cheapo ball valves but none of them worked, they all leaked.

In the end one of these was the answer. I cant remember which.

I also used what I think was permatex fuel resistant gasket maker on all the joints. Wonderful stuff.

If I remember this avo Ill take a picture and report back. I thought I had one of my fine work. :-)

Any ball or gate valve will do but preferably a stainless ball valve available from any Whitworths or plumbing supply. Just make sure it's fuel compatible.
I would be more concerned about the attachment to the tank. It looks like some sort of putty has been applied around the valve. I imagine there is a male thread coming off the tank which the valve screws onto. Carefully chip away the putty to unscrew the old valve. If the male thread is ok screw the new valve on using fuel compatible thread tape or fuel gasket goo as above.

Good luck.

Just a quick update in case anybody else is looking for something similar.
After running around everywhere I was finally pointed to Pirtek and bought a ball valve with the correct threads and installed it today.
The guy was not sure if it was fuel compatible or not but it only cost $18 for both parts so I will see how it goes.
All that was wrong with the old one was the 2 rubber washers inside the spindle nut but they are flat ones and no one seems to stock them.

Thanks for the replies once more

cheers

Hi Cockpit, assuming the valve is at the base of the tank I presume you had to siphon the tank empty first before installing the replacement? Looking to add an in-line shut off valve to the supply line out of the tank as well but have a full tank of diesel and only a very small access hole for the dipstick (piece of bamboo) with a removable bolt in the top of the tank!

Yes I had to syphon about 18 litres, I bought one of those Jiggler pipes from Whitworths but I couldn't get it to free flow so I just jiggled it all the time. Did the job and better than getting a mouth full of diesel but could of been better...
