Hey guys
I am looking to replace my depth sounder (Navico Ds200 p) wouldn't mine keeping it as it works well but it's mounted on a bulkhead deep inside the boat ( nightmare with polaroids) and with no more length on the transducer lead and unable to find a replacement lead. Any suggestions of a good depth/ fish finder that won't break the bank I'm not looking for hi tech fishing , just would like to see What the bottoms like when I'm coming into somewhere
cheers

Same problems here.
At Ww's Brookvale they got a display model hooked up.
I spied on the Axiom 7" but too complicated for my needs. Pricy too at $1300+
Also checked the 7" Dragonfly which l like with the CMap, NOT Navionics. $800
5" screen too small for ageing eyes.
The only question is the transducer. Transom mount or hull mount? It comes with the transom mounted one but it does not IMO, suit my skeg type hull.
The hull mounted one has a weird shape not like the old round ones, would need sculpturing the hull to fit it snug. And it is 500 bucks plus haul out and fit.
Next week l will talk to Raymarine about it, see what they say.

Maybe one of these. You can download the App on your phone or iPad and the wifi into the sonar transmitter. If you also run navionics on your iPad you can use it to update chart information

Some good ideas but I managed to find a longer navico transducer lead so I'm able to run it into the cockpit, how well do you think the sonar phone transducer would shoot through the hull ?

Does anyone have a permanently fitted transducer for this Vexilar Sonar Phone ?
I would love to talk to the one who has it for a while.

I've had a sonar phone for about 18 months, it isn't permanently mounted, I got it to use as a back up sounder. It won't fire through a steel hull but works ok through glass but of course the temperature won't work.
I mount the transducer on a stick and hang it from the transom and that way it can easily be moved to the dingy for fishing / exploring. I was useing it yesterday to sound out an area

Just received my Hook2 from bcf

Screen slightly smaller then 5" Garmin I'm replacing but display is nice and bright. Also transducer only does 200kHz and not as many adjustments for fishing but as a depth sounder and basic fish finder for just over $100 I thinks its good value for money.

What kind of transducer are you running Harb? I am still contemplating this one as the backlighting on mine is next to nothing

I've got mine going through my glass hull and yes the temperature works fine

The small bullet transducer that comes with it, 200kHz & 40 degrees beam. Have not fixed it permanently yet so not sure how well it works epoxied to hull yet, the screen is brighter then my Garmin 350c but not as many colors.
