Here we go again, we had to suffer another sadly disappointing coverage by Channel 7, broken up frequently by idiotic advertisements, of our well publicized and allegedly loved Sydney to Hobart Race start.

Well if one loves an iconic sports event which is watched world wide, one would not brake it up by despicable advertising every five minutes or so. (not even relevant to water sports or sailing! except stink boats)

One would expect an afternoon ' on the water' and not a ninety minute badly commented coverage, mostly following a few zillion dollar competitors, while relegating the rest of the field to occasional 'premier plan' sweeps of a camera without relevant, informative comments.

CHANNEL SEVEN YOU SUCK! BIG TIME!

+1. Even more boring than usual.
I'm barracking for 1) Komatso Azzuro (S&S34) and 2) WOX (Ladies).
Don't know much about the others - thanks for nothing CH7.

Congratulations channel 7. I don't think you could get any worse than previous years, but you did. Did Black Jack break the script buy beating Oats and Comanche out the heads and you had nothing to say? We can only assume there was only one start this year as there was no footage of any other starts. Next year just give the job to Nic Douglas.

Give the rights to the ABC as they have common sense not to brake any program and so any thought process for enriching themselves by obsequiously serving greedy advertisers by causing mental anguish and suffering and exasperation to their viewers.

Pretty sad coverage, it used to be a great Boxing Day Event.

Who runs the race, CYC or Wild Oates?

Good to see the 60 footer at last beat one of the gazillion dollar 100 footers round the top mark !

Felt sorry for the 40-50 footers, no coverage whatsoever, they're the real story of the race and will probably spend more than a day and half out there!

The advertisers had a win. Because there were only about 5 boats in the race and they all looked the same with their black sails you had to use the sail logos to identify the boats. Offshore when they used the extra staysail they were easier to recognize.

Agree with a lot of the comments here. I always look forward to this race and the build up every year, and watch Ch7 kill it. Its even been relegated to the 7mate now they are busy also killing Test cricket. We really don't treat our sporting traditions very well in this country anymore.

That being said, I did like the close and personal shots on Wild Oats XI and being able to hear the skipper. The highlight however was seeing sailing skill triumph dollars as Blackjack cleared the heads first.

On a side not, WTF is wrong with the skippers of those spectator boats. So many narrow bow crossings of racing yachts.

They did a fine job in ruining to coverage with all the ads. I would have preferred Jimmy S in the commentary box instead of bouncing around in a tinny .
Thank Goodness for the mute button.

the archaic referencing of every woman as a "girl" in the commentating also didn't go down well in my household.

nor did the stupid comment about what might have happened to Julie Bishop's makeup when she jumped off the back of Wild Oats X.

That was excellent! Drone footage I'm guessing. Good to see Mark Twain just at the end.

It was a good footage no doubt but this only increases my disgust towards channel 7's meretricious coverage and their exclusive rights which vitiates the possibility for others to cover the event who could do a better job.

Their behaviour is inflaming my otherwise growing ignorance and exasperation towards all commercial tv channels, foremost, channel 7.

They don't deserve their name written using capital letters!

Such good footage, how come the big networks can't do that!

Nothing like a beam reach in 20 knots to showcase these beasts, how good would it be to steer one , just for like 10 minutes please !

Great footage, and displayed really nicely the variety of boats and set ups that compete in this mighty race.

Just asking a question...... If Ch7 didn't put in adds then how would they cover the costs of mounting such a production....helicopters, power boats, crew don't come cheap on public holiday rates....

Someone said 'give it to that ABC' ..... has anyone watched the New Year Eve production that the ABC does each year and that has to be rated as appalling.

Do people really still watch the GayBC. I suppose it takes all kinds.
