Is anyone currently sailing the Nsw / Qld coast and using the A Lucas books? These books have not been updated for many years now, info provided by Boat Books.

So, to the people currently sailing or have recently sailed that area of coast line, have you found them to still be a reliable and accurate source of info ?

Anyone using any other resources such as
Robs Passage Planner 4th Ed 2016
Jack and Jude

thanks
John

I've always found that Lucas's port/river entry way points are sus and always check them as you should.
In my opinion Lucas's books are really passage guides as later guides go into more detail.
And now we have Deckee and Zuluwaterways [highly recommended] which are constantly being updated or corrected online and Zulu has charts included.

I do know that Lucas was doing an update for his Queensland book last year but have not heard when that will reach the press.
Lucas used to do yearly updates but that stopped some years ago.

I use Robs Passage Planner [it does have some holes as to what cruisers normally do]
Jack and Jude are passage makers, no real details of the coast.

There are at least 4 or 5 other good guides for separate parts of the Queensland coast, all but one are in print.

Thanks for your info.

Have Zulu and good to know that you suggest it is relevant. Will check out Deckee.

Agree with NSWSailor. On my first journey from Sydney to the Whitsundays, I bought both Lucas guides and spent a lot of time studying them before the trip. While they provided worthwhile information for a first timer, up to date (electronic) maps were far more useful for navigating into ports and rivers.
I used Rob's Planner to give me distances to calculate travel times before the trip. Once on the water, the electronic maps gave me a much better time to destination (or waypoint).
There is such a wealth of knowledge by members on this forum, it makes sense to include Seabreeze in your list of resources. Many of the standard trips have been discussed in detail in previous years, normally around this time of year, as us cold southerners head north for the winter.
