The boat has a fridge freezer setup in the cabinets. The owner is not sure how the system is set up as he has been away from the yacht for 5 years.
(His words) To run the fridge/freezer you must run the motor for a hour or so at night and in the morning. (I am hoping its not belt driven)
Has anyone heard of a system that draws power of a motor without being belt driven?
If it is belt driven dose anyone know how big of a job it would be to have it set up for a 12v battery bank
I have been looking around online for a few days and not had much luck, just looking for a push in the right direction.
The freezer is in the Cabernet to the left and the fridge is straight ahead to the right.

Sounds like there is a compressor driven by a v-belt. This was a pretty standard setup years ago. Could have a TX Valve as well. If you want it to run off 12 volts and use the existing evaporator plates (or eutectic tank) you might be best talking to a refrigeration mechanic to recommend a suitable 12V compressor. Another way would be to rip out all the existing refrigeration system and buy one of those kits you see advertised and fit it yourself. $$$ no matter which way you go.
The old system must also have a condensor somewhere. This can either be a fan cooled or water cooled.
Yeah I think you are right Crusoe, I might be best to get someone in to look at it.
