I was wondering what happens to the sail when the luff cut doesn't match the for and aft mast bend. Too much luff curve = ? Too little luff curve = ?

Also how to make a pattern for your luff curve. - Set up your boat and tie off between the tip of the mast and the end of the boom and sheet in as hard as possible then trace out mast bend on paper?

the windsurfers have a system called IMCS where the ends of the mast are supported between trestles and a 30kg weight hung and a string line run across . you can then measure the displacement along a line
theoretically you then cut luff of sail to suit.
i tend to put slightly more curve in the head ,which helps to support the head when sailing
