Thumbs Up

Today I spent some time having a closer look at used windsurfing sails, ranging from 80's Mistral up to 2013 Severne Blade, for my next potential land yacht sail project.

I came up with a list of some potential good stuff you can recycle and some problems with used sails.

Some of the good stuff from old sail:
-Battens and Batten tensioning systems
-Webbing
-Turbins
-Luff pockets
-Pulleys
-Sail bags
-Rope
-Plastic buckles
-Batten keys/Hex wrench
-Sailcloth/Laminate/mono

Now for some issues I found with some sails:
-Delamination

-Rotten/Perished webbing

-Stains

-Torn/Cut Luff pocket

-Split/Cracked Battens

Other Issues included:
-mould
-faded material
-cloudy/scratched/cracked/creased mono
-fraying
-stretched fabric
-cracked batten tensioners
-holes

Old windsurfing sails are a great source of parts if you can get them for free or super cheap.

Ben.
