Hello All, long time no post![]()
Ive been having a read through the threads on this section and can't find what I want to know so here goes.
Some of you may remember in one of my other posts that I have been learning to alter and change the shape of my sail to one that is of use. Now it started off as a 6.2 metre sail and found out that it was to big. It was a tractor of a sail, but now I think its shape is about right I THINK? (will post photos later) It ended up at about 4.2 metres in total area, so I'm hoping its big enough now coz I ain't little. I did read else where on this site small is better so is there a size that is considered average or about right? If you look at the photos in the register they go from 3.x to 6.x metres in area. I can understand that it is the old saying of what is normal, but You must aim for a certain size? I am talking about the LL mini here, as that is what Ive been making.......Well not for a while now but I intend to finish it now, Honest!
Any way over to you people
Regards
Jay
with a good hard beach and a good breeze you should be fine with 4.2-4.5.
mybe a reef or 3.5 for the sillier days. for the bigger sail try to pile the sail area up high rather than out on the foot . if your surface is softer or rutted then add the sail area to the foot
We tend to get a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to beach surface over here on the east coast in the UK, but normally its quite hard on the sea washed area's. however we do tend to get quite a lot in the way of rutts on the beach from wave action. however it was very clear to me that 6.2 metres was way to big for my old buggy, and no doubt the LLmini too.
