I have just started to recut another sail but the problem I find myself with is that to get the luff curve and sail size that I need I am cutting into the mylar panels. can anyone suggest the best way to reinforce the edge of the mylar where I attach the luff tube. I have some seam stick tape that I had hoped to use to join a fabric edge and then fit the luff tube but the experiments I have tried machine stitching through the tape have not been successful as the machine needle seems to pick up the adhesive. Any suggestions please?
Fot some kites I made, I put a little piece of sponge over the needle and the tread on which I dripped some glue remover before stitching. When the sponge got dry I dripped some new remover on it. For me this worked fine with ripstop nylon, however some other kite builders thought this might damage the coating of the nylon, but I never had any problems. So try glue remover first on the mylar. Good luck!
