Totally blown away with our first experience of beach sailing on Kangaroo Island. With a nearly two kilometre run along a fairly hard beach and a South Easterly wind blowing fairly square onto us conditions were near perfect. A huge change from our 300m round claypan. The long run lets us tweak settings and wind up to terminal velocity. Top speed was pretty similar between the two different rigs but felt entirely different getting there. The 7m dacron sail with a 30cm reef on the foot pulled like a truck V8 down low. The 5m mylar was a small engined sports car that got better and better as the speed wound up.
