My last Class 5x was comfortable but way to heavy to be competitive.
Plus I have always liked the look of YOTT geometry so I finally got around to putting some of my ideas into practice.
This yacht will be as close as I can get to Class 5 compliant given that it is designed to use camed windsurfer sails.
For those who are interested I decided to go with a steel frame seat because of my need for rear sheeting for the windsurfer sails. Therefore a traditional fiberglass cockpit would have required a lot of reinforcing.
This seat is made from 25x50x2 mm steel RHS frame slung with 3mm thick HDPU (High Density Polyurethane dam liner).
Although flexible and easy to work with it is pretty resilient and firm enough to provide fair protection from undercarriage impacts.
Total weight of the seat including steel frame and membrane is 7kg
Spoke covers will be added to the wheels once the spokes have bedded in.
I haven weighed the rigged yacht yet but it feels like it might need some ballast to bring it up to 50kg Class 5 spec.
You have done a great job in building this yacht John, and also like how you have thought outside of the box, Should be fun sailing against it.
