I am a kiteboarder of 2 years and heading to Canada, looking to take up snowkiting, as I will be land-locked ! aaarrrrggh.

Are there any big differences...do you ride circuits? up wind and end up where you started? or is it more downwinder?? I seen these crazy videos where folk are all over the place.

I guess you avoid places with trees.

Anyone know of good places in Alberta?

Just get out there and ride mate you'll soon work it out having two years kiting under your belt.
Couple of things , apart from the obvious equipment, you need less wind to get going, as less board friction can kite it in lighter winds.
Rear entry bindings as well like the one's mentioned in this topic, Flows or Cinch's
Foils are better for off piste people will argue the point but the fact remains they're safer.
Freeride and flat is cool for LEI and man-made kickers and all that but if you are considering back country, which you will eventually then you really need a 2 kite foil quiver, and a handheld GPS, snow boots,UHF radio, avalanche tranciever, and snow skills, if your just comercial riding i.e on ski fields on piste,in a group, you shouldn't need all the gear but given where your going I'd invest in all of the above, because the best is in the back country.
Most of all you'll love it it rocks. I'm jealous
