Last month George and I managed to kite Falls after the first good dump. We caught the Southerly after the system moved over. Unlucky Polykarb was working. NZ hopefully turns it on for ya big nuts.

Here are a few pics.

You can see on the synoptic chart below that you want to grab it when a high is sitting on South Aus. It pumped Tuesday and Wednesday. It has to be a clean looking chart. None of this oval flat system crap, nice round stuff is goods.

Sorry mate I won't be around for rest of season. It looks like you will have good snow up there. Every wind direction will allow you to find some terrain up there, is it flat up your way?. The southerly is my favourite as the snow gets blown in at sort of a north westerly so you get good powder drifts on the leeward sides of the slopes being south east or there abouts. I've found that in powder you still need to be powered as if you where on water so the 10m in 20kts is awesome. I threw on some skis for 4 days when there was no wind do maybe next time I will ski under kite, so much back country out in pretty valley to check out. I have found a way to get out there over the rocky knolls in a northerly but getting home you'll need to skin it out. To much exploring to be had!!!

Hi ando313
its almost the same here, southerlys are great and we get them a bit but the best is an easterly.ive only had 2 days flying in an easterly but they were the best days of my life!!!!
yeah theres a lot of big flat areas to kite or alot of steep hills to climb but the nice rolling hills are a fair kite away
now we have got enough snow i can kite from the back of the lift and back in almost every wind (i love not having to put skins on and walk at all if i can ). i havent done much water kiting , i mainly land kite but in powder my 9m ozone frenzy would be perfect in 20knts
fingers crossed this weekend will be the first time out this season that i wont be rock dodging all day and i can have a good explore

cheers Marty
