Howdy Trend Setters,
I've just finished a three day hike across Falls Creek back country known as the "Bogong High Plains".
For those interested, there are many areas worth exploring.
- North Heathy Spur
- Sun Valley
- South Wallaces Hut to Cope Saddle Hut
- ... everything from Rocky Knobs down south to Mt Cope
Guys, the square areas we're talking about is double - if not triple - the entire skiing area of Falls Creek itself.
I have to agree - **** lifts, they're history.
I kite-surf Port Phillip Bay. I'd like to get organised over the next six months for a week of Snow-kiting.
By organised, perhaps some competitions? Some touring? Let's put Falls on the Map!
Let me know if you're interested.

After kiting out the back of falls towards pretty valley looking towards hotham I really want to do a snow kiting mission from Falls to Hotham when the conditions are right and I am with a similarly skilled bunch of people. Roughly 20km as the crow flies, and wouldnt be hard to get someone to drive to falls and then catch a ride back to bright from people at hotham. Obviously touring gear and foil kites would be a must, but given the right conditions I reckon it would be do-able!
Anyway, if you havent snowkited up there (or overseas), you will often find people (like myself) kiting up there during the winter so if you see us come and say hi :)
hey party people!!
Ive been kiting in Melbourne and am really interested in a snowkiting trip this year! I'm doing my first with KiteRepublic this year in august at Hotham. I'm a highly capable snowboarder and more than competent kiter. I don't have a foil kite but am happy to use my normal quiver (8/12/15-prolly not the 15 but you get my drift) in nice open areas......
keen to meet adventurous people
Where is the best place to go for a snow kite?
Im not working so have plenty of time to hit the snow but no cash for lift passes.
Is there anything important I need to know that is majorly different from on water kiting? - apart from the obvious hard surface?
I'll be headed back to Falls in a weeks time if ya keen?
I'm hoping to kite 15th and 16th. (Tues/Wed)
But it's a bit early to tell if winds/weather will be good.
I'm also looking at the following weekend 19th/20th/21st. (Sat/Sun/Mon)
Good times.
Super keen. I dont know if im working yet either but chances are low.
What do you do for accom??
And where in melb are you?
Hi everyone!
I'm a Melbourne-based kitesurfer and I want to try snowkiting this month at Falls Creek. I will probably be there two days SUN and MON, I will post the dates as soon as I know - is anyone interested to come?
Could you guys help me with the following questions:
1. I own a 8m and 10m Airush inflatable kite - how much wind do I need for those (70kg) on snow? I checked the BOM website (link from a former post: www.bom.gov.au/products/IDV60801/IDV60801.94903.shtml), but don't know how much is enough? Which wind direction is best? Where can I find a good forecast for that area?
2. Obviously, I don't want to pay for a lift ticket only to get up once, so do you have any suggestions how to get up? I heard that the Gully lift to The Bowl is free and from there it should somehow be possible to hike up. Has anyone of you guys done that? How long does it take? See map from a colleague.
3. I read a few topics here about Falls Creek, and it seems that the area behind the Ruined Castle lift is best suitable for kiting - is that true? Any recommendations?
Thank you very much in advance! I'm looking forward to trying that :)
Jo
