landboarding areas near rockingham WA

Probably the salt lake would be the closest choice if I were down that way. There used to be a bunch of buggiers and land yachts there. Worth checking out!

Yeah the salt lakes are the go down there, probably the best spot in the metro area I know of. South to south westers are the go, but the easterlies can be ok too. There's a few spots you can go depending on the wind direction/strength but where the shipping container is, is generally the best spot(smoother and more open). Just Means a bit of a walk from the car park on safety bay rd (it's not bad near the road on a sw but might not be such a good idea with kites). If you become a member of the sandgropers (land yachts) you can get a key or code for the gate which is the go.
I've been goin down there for bout 5 years now, there's one guy that get out on the buggy every now and then but apart from him it's just the land yachts, who are pretty cool, just stay out the way on race days (sundays through summer).

Kitehard, I was going to suggest this spot for you guys to get some demos cranking, good open spot with heaps of room, and heaps of exposure from passing cars. Might be a bit of a treck from up your way but.

The surface at safety bay is a limestone fine gravel rather than salt.Still hurts. I would recommend getting in touch with the SandGropers Landyacht club before you Kite thereas there are bucket loads of rules due to it being a CALM reserve.
The gropers will help, and you could avoid problems with rangers etc There is a post in the general landsailing site with a list of links, or try contacting Murray Turner at Carline Mufflers in Dixon Rd

We have a big wekend get together in the long weekend in september, at Lake Lefroy, if a 20km run is to your liking. we have 2 or 3 Kiteboarders and a buggy ripping around here at the moment
