I'm a beginner/newbie who needs some help with planning (and packing) for a visit to perth for work from ~ dec-june and travel on WA coast in june-july

what are typical winds (direction, windspeed) during this period?
can someone provide a useful link for understanding weather/winds?
what ~2 kite sizes should i bring? (i'm 68kg and i dont have a quiver yet ...)

thanks much

I'm speaking only of Perth here from my experience over the last two/three years.

Summer seabreeze season tends to kick in around october and last until late february. During this time you can often kitesurf 5-7 days per week, often over 20 knots. Winds pick up about 2pm and last until after sunset. I'm 73kg and i split 50/50 between my 7m and 10m.

From March to June is autumn. This period is beautiful sunny weather, about 28 degrees every day but absolutely no wind. You'll be lucky to kite more than once per month.

From June back through to august is the winter storm period. Very gusty and often between 25-35 knots. Theres usually a storm at least every two weeks, sometimes you'll get out a few times a week. 7m and smaller only (in general).

At 68kg, i'd bring a 7m and 10m or a 6m and 9m, or something thereabouts.

^ Wise words by Matty, you might still get some wind in March but by April it's all over for a few months especially for beginners.
If you are planning to travel up or down the WA coast in June - July forget about kiting, Far North Queensland (if you are lucky) is the only place in Oz that you are likely to find wind at that time of year.

Well, I was in Northern QLD this Year from June through to August. July there were a couple of windy Days, but usually combined with **** Weather. End of August two weeks in Cairns and nothing at all.
Maybe I was unlucky, some locals around Cairns said it was one of the worst Seasons, but well does not seem to be very reliable then.

Yep I was up North Qld for a couple of weeks in July and didn't get much wind either thats why I said if you are lucky you may get wind up their at that time of the year.
I still think you have a better chance of getting kitable winds over there in June/July than in WA or any other state, but you may still get none.
June and July is for surfing over here.

Sounds like Darren Marshall - Australian Kiteboarding School is your man.. He's on the forums here as 'Kitehard' or check the website. They're down at Pinnaroo every windy day. He'd probably have replied but I bet he's out testing that new C4 right now!!

No affiliation, he's just a genuine guy running a good business 'on the spot'.

Good luck.

we'll be in WA beginning of January to end of March. Coming from the south. We want to ride at the usual spots. Want to see also Esperance and Margaret River. Do you have any recommendations on what route we should take?
First see Esperance in January and then go up north or first go up north spot by spot and come back in March and go to Esperance and Margaret River.
Whats the probability of getting enough wind to kite in March down there?
What's the usual size in Geraldton and Exmouth during that time for a 90 kg guy on C-Kites?

cheers.
