Gday to all,
Looking for a kite buddy. Im 28 yrs old. Had lesson at safety bay and been out at applecross mainly bodydragging with board. Keen to go whenever there is wind. Have own kit.
I live north of river but prefer to kite in the river till im a little more competent. Am able to pick you up and drop you off.
Cheers

Hey Luke,
There is a bit of a novice group that gets together every now and then. The river is hard because it is easily 5knots weaker at Melville than on the coast. I've never been down to the beach on a windy day and not seen someone I know. I'm keen to go out pretty much any time it's blowing but I'm away working until about the 25th or so.
Cheers
Josh
Hey Luke
there's a good group of locals at pinnaroo pt, good community & plenty of support for beginners if you're northern suburbs.
BUT, the days that are suitable for beginners are few and far between now, by all means use the river, but as winter sets-in the wind will become more W to NW and the river becomes less and less suitable.
Winter kiting is not really an option for novices, less people around if things go wrong,in terms of strength the frontal winds can go from 18 to 35kts in a few minutes.
Search the forums for advice on winter kiting.
Keep safe over the winter and look forward to september/october and the return of the SW winds
hey guys thanks for the advice,
Got into it at the wrong time of the year. Had a taste now i want more, haha.
i have an 8m air rush 2010 and am looking to get a 12m. Is this a right choice to cover the wind range for perth? And do i need to get a different board to suit the bigger kite. i have a liquid force mission 138. I am 75kgs and about 175cm. Any advice will be appreciated.
cheers
Luke
At your weight a 7m and 11m would have been ideal but you still have a good set there. You will likely ride the 8m for 80% of summer.
If you really wanna max your low wind time on the water adding a biggish board (I have a 150cm) will add more range (using your 12m) than getting a +14m kite. Heaps more fun to fly a 12m and it is waaayy cheaper to add a board than a kite too. Win win.![]()
Best wait until after next summer before taking on winter kiting.
Good luck.
I'm playing hookie to go kiting tomorrow. If anybody is keen shoot me a PM. I'll probably head to Saftey Bay since the swell is up and waves is scary.
