Heading to Yalls nxt week for a family holiday,hoping to get some kiting in.
Would appreciate some info on the do's and don't's of kiting here.
Launch area?
Currents?
Local rules?
Best tides?
Best wind?
Travelling light so only taking one kite and surfboard....planned on a 10 m Reo.

Rule number #1 : avoid RABBIT ... or he will eat you
Wind can be a bit unpredictable in Yall as the bay is quiet closed and sometimes the wind doesnt get in.
When the wind comes in, it can be a bit onshore with the angle of the swell which can be a bit tricky as your lines get slacked.
Launch : downwind of the swimming pool zone, avoid few rocks and go out.
They are always few locals down there, better ask them on your first day.

I'm guessing WSW is best.
One of my locals is grunters, can get caught out there if wind drops or changes. bailed into gas a few times not fun 
Yals is protected by the point. Wind shadow gets worse the closer to Rabbits you get. If you end up at Rabbits in the shore break you might be buying a new Reo.
definitely need some west in the wind - straight south / SSW is sheltered by the headland. Better on a big swell, otherwise it's a mushy boring shoulder.
Try not piss-off the old-boy local mal riders who ride the left during the sea breezes as well.

All great info...was there last year but didn't get to kite it,did a lot of watching as I had only just started in the surf.
Know what you mean by old-boy local mal. riders.....saw some fella's last year rip'n it in big swell on the SUP's.....respect!

times i have kited there i launched at the end of rocks, start of shorebreak. gnarly launch, sometimes i just drag out as fast as i can with board hanging behind on leash if you cant get going in time.
agree tho, if light prob dont go out as if you end up down rabbits way it is light, keep kite high man and cross ur nuts.
watch out for the slabby sucky section, gotta go round it.
and yes, be nice to locals. they are friendly there, well ones i have met in water so respect and take turns and they will be fine.
If its blowing S or SE then head to Augusta.. more for flat water but a few waves out the back.. My suggestion say to the family .. " guys I'm going to the bakery to grab some bread " ... just don't tell them that you are going to Augusta bakery with a sneaky kite on the side ..
