Hey Kiters,

Jo here, the guy who drives the Upwinder van.

I had a super time last summer and kited every windy day, driving as many of you Upwind along the coast as I could. I had so much fun, I'm going to do it again!

I want to get a feel for roughly what time you guys can make it to the beach on windy week days? Last summer I departed from South Trigg at 430 and am thinking of pushing it back to 5. The risk is it might be too late, as you'd only be getting back to Trigg at 630-730.

Wishing we had daylight savings,
Jo

Hi there Joe .. 5 sounds good . I intend to do triple downwinders this summer.Ill probably start with a bycycle run from trigg around 1230 pm to city beach for a 1:15 pm start . Do another one at around 3pm from swanny with the crew and 5 pm for the last one on the upwinder would be perfect!

Hey Jo,

Awesome news that your running the van again. My personal choice would be to keep the runs at 1630....

Can't wait.

Hi Jo

I can get there for 4:00 but it's a juggling act for you, later means chance of more people but 5:00 is only viable in December and January with more light. I guess outside of the lighter months 5pm only allows the shorter City Beach run.

I take my time on a downwinder at least 2 hours (more is better), may be because I'm regular stance and prefer toeside waveriding so progress down wind is slower (frontside goofy stance means bearing off the wind all the time).

Good on you for doing another season Jo, as last summer was my first in Perth I'll be on the magic bus more often this season.

I'm keen for either 4:30 or 5. Five is easier to get to after work. Maybe 5 in Dec Jan and 4:30 outside that to get the most people/ take advantage of most daylight as per moon waxing's suggestion?

Having said that if it is 4:30 I'll make up an excuse that is accepted by the general population (such as "picking up the kids from daycare" or some such story), which is for some reason automatically accepted.

Great Service you're offering mate............I didn't get a lift last season but will get on board this year.

All the feedback has been positive.

As I haven't done a DW with you yet I'm hesitant to comment but thought your last run time could be later as the days get longer which would give more of us with 9 - 5pm jobs a chance to grab a lift???

Looking forward to cranking winds and some swell.

I'll be free all day so if your doing an earlier run i'd probably jump onto that one..and then again for a second go later..1.30 and a 4.30 would be good. Maybe middle of summer 1.30, 3.30 and a 5.30?

Hell yeah come to think of it I would be eager to do a 3:30 and 5:30 if I could get there, and I will be able to once or twice a week.

Hey all,

Thanks for the positive feedback.

I think I'm going to start in mid November, initially at 4:30. If there is enough wind I might push it back to 5. If there are enough people, I'll aim to do multiple trips, but that really didn't seem to work last season.

This season, I'm super keen to organise frequent Sunday day trips up to Lancelin, to do the Lano-Wedge downwinder, or just to get away from the crowds in Perth and kite Lancelin point. Logistics are tricky, stay tuned.

Stoked,
Jo
