I though that thunderstorm would kill it off but apparently it bounced back as soon as it passed, I heard it was a sweet session in the end.

easy on the pommy bashing. I am heading out to Coogee region for three weeks for Christmas. bringing surfboard and twin tip, now trying to decide which kites to pack.....was hoping I could get away with two. 9m and 12m or 8 and 11m? or I cover all bases and bring 7,9,12

any advice appreciated.

^ We get the odd day where it gets up around 30 knots in summer but most days will be 15-25. Bring the kite which bests suits 18-22 knots, plus another. On very windy days you can always kite earlier in the day when it's not as strong.

If you can fit them into your baggage allowance id go the 7,9,12 .. That will maximise your kiting time. You can always buy jocks and toothbrush here. Only need the clothes you are wearing.

Well ner ner to all the superstitious voodoo forum trolls, no jinxing the wind this week. I missed most of it as I was away at work but got the 7m out today for the first time this season (non-downwinder.). Stoked!

Check this out:
www.abc.net.au/news/rural/2015-12-11/warming-indian-ocean-raises-rainfall-potential/7020108

I've been in the ocean weekly for at least the last couple of months. I thought Dave was wrong when he said it was warmer than normal (sorry Dave). Turns out maybe I'm just a pussy when it comes to cold:

ABC wrote..
Record warm temperatures in the Indian Ocean are being observed, as they have potential to bring more rainfall to parts of Australia.

"All year the Indian Ocean as a whole has been warmer than normal and for the last couple of months now it's been warmest on record," Mr Grey said.

"Anytime you've (got a) warmer than normal tropical ocean it has to be evaporating records amounts of moisture by definition."

As to where the water will go, different weather models are predicting different outcomes.

Getting a bit troughed out????

Jan and Feb usually great months. With the East coast underwter and the SCG looking like a swimming pool, I hope next week gets better.

Gone to ****e this has been a pretty average summer to say the least, surly this means it will be epic up until April. Feels like the season had just got started.

Yeh Albany was a blast. Great bunch of locals down there, me and a mate had a cracker time (oh except when I was hailed on then had a bit of an electric shock from a lightening bolt!!!) Last day solid 30 knots hey.

This would have to be the weirdest spell of weather I've witnessed during the last couple of weeks, however it's not localised, ski season in Europe is crap, poms getting lashed on more than normal, 13 deg instead of -2 back home, 3 knots here instead of 30, the bikes been flogged instead of catching dust, the boats catching fish instead of rust

Bump

So what is the call? The guys in the shortboard forum are winging about El Nino, but we never really have metro waves in summer.

Has it been windier than usual?

I dunno - I reckon it's been pretty good. Didn't trough-out much. But not really a super windy season either.

Other than that I've been mostly using my small kites this season.

It's been a shocker. Yes I've been Kiting but it's been a pretty poor season.

Ok Jan was a dog, and Feb not much better.

Roughly, days over 15 knots @ Ocean Reef:

14 days in Feb
13 days in Jan
27 days in Dec
20 days in Nov
12 days in Oct

Anything less < 18kn isn't worth bothering about... Now that changes your table considerably!

too true, 18knots goes in my 'why bother' basket, 10 years ago would have been a different story
