Reminder that the Stirling Beach Policy has a kitesurfing exclusion zone from Brighton beach drain to end of the grass at Scarborough, and North of the Trigg carpark to Trigg Point. While its been casual in its enforcement the last few years, its still in place and only takes a nosy NIMBY to make life hard for all.

the last few summers since some idiot ripped the sign down, have been not fun. It's even more important now that Foilers have to enter and exit the water close to the groyne to avoid reef - so to see constant show off behaviour right in that corner is really disappointing. Even if it wasn't a law, it's just stupidity.
Then just as a politeness thing, Twinnies in the waves when people are trying to waveride is a bit of a pain too. Yessss I know Dutchies has crap waves but the twinnies need to just move down a bit. Thumbs up to those who do move north when some windsurfers start going DTL
Kiters are not reading the signs at Mersey Point/Penguin Island and were kiting in the red areas of this map in the recent weeks.
A local lady (greenie enviro) activist have noticed this and called city rangers the other day.
red areas near the island are wind shadow and kinda crap haven't seen anyone in there on kites, some of pole dances still land on the beach because they cannot tack or gybe, a few guys play on kites along the sandbar but only rule their breaking will be going faster than 12knts...2nd picture looks like someone reproduced the exclusion zones with a blunt crayon enlarging the area
Are windsurfers not included because of low numbers , or big sharp fins are penguin friendly ?

Large flying objects like your kite startle the different species of birds present there when flying close . The birds get scared, they fright, take flight, and can hit/strike the kite lines while at speed. A few Pelicans and seagulls had lost their necks in that spot before in events like described above.
Never seen a bird strike a Windsurf sail before.
The issue is not only striking fauna in the water, otherwise they would ban everyone inc motor boats even the ferry operating there.
This is not a poles vs kites issue like you are making it sound.
Read the signs, follow the rules, dont spoil it for everyone else.

actually supportive of the exclusion zone, not going on the beach near penguin homes is a great idea, getting rid of the ferry and tourists would be a great start.

That's another beach (Stirling Beach), not Pengos. Pengos has only exclusions for kiters, not windsurfers.
Scotp, they have already reduced the number of days that the ferry runs to reduce the impact.

There,s no penguins there anymore ,they moved to Garden island.To many tourists and the pelicans took over the island because their breeding grounds were flooded because of the Dawesville cut,there never used to be any pelicans there.You would think the ferry continuously going over and back and people stomping all over the place would be more detrimental than the odd wind or kitesurfer.

The island she stops at is Eddies in Lancelin, not pengos (in case that was your issue). No penguins at Eddies, maybe the odd gull and sealion

Yeeeah I noticed that but I did watch it twice to be sure and yes one of them is wedge/ed lanc and she did make a comment 'go to penguin island it only takes fifteen minutes' so that's rather naughty

That's not to say I haven't gone for a spin over to pengos myself back In the day more than decade ago maybe ... but when we did it I realized it was 'wrong' and didn't do it again

Twinnies all over the place at Dutch Inn. pleaseeeee not too far south (read my post above) and if you're on a twin tip please be aware that even if there is tiny crappy waves both kiters and windsurfers will try to ride them. When they turn downwind they are not being rude and u need to pay attention.
further - there are rocks so you can NOT go all the way in just a little bit downwind of a windsurfer or Foiler, you will push them into shallow water as they can't gybe with you there 10m downwind of them doing same speed.
plus swimmers and walkers close to the water. Stop making your inside turn a few metres off the beach, nobody cares what you look like.

I'll bite and try to provide some perspective from the other side re the Dutchies bs...I kite both on a twin tip and the surfboard, and go often to Dutchies only on my twin tip as, as mentioned by mark above, there are no actual rideable waves, unless maybe twice a year during Winter storms where surprise surprise, the windsufers/kiters on surfboards are nowhere to be found :). The turning I'm seeing on 'waves' at dutchies from kiters is a joke at best, and just a look at me lame 'show move' in my opinion, and you can catch the swell just as well on a twin tip as on a surfboard at dutchies...On the other hand, Dutchies on a good day is a passable spot to jump on a kite on the unbroken waves as they provide an OK launch, and imo much better suited for that discipline (if you manage to dodge the 'wave' riders and the windsurfers mowing the lawn - apart from that one Windsurfer actually ripping it, if that's you, sorry!). The reason I sometimes go further south is the same reason the foilers have to enter the water there, there's a break in the reef! Surprise surprise, when you start jumping higher and want to try board-offs/loops on the kite, it's nicer to fall and perforate the water on sand than on reef for obvious reasons, especially at low tide.Select to expand quoteMark _australia said..

Why? Who decided that? How long ago? As mentioned above it's the only spot to practice things without doing an ankle on the reef at low tide when jumping?From my PoV kiters and the two (at best ;)) windsurfers that remain at Dutchies actually share the space pretty well, and the main problems are the occasional arrogant pricks on windsurfs that refuse to give right of way when they should because of some sense of entitlement of the beach over something decided 20 years ago, although I've found most to seem/be friendly?! I've more than once gone and helped tow in or rescue some kiters/windsurfers having issues there and I think it's just ridiculous people think the space needs to be divided and we can't all just share the water and simply follow right of way rules...Don't get me started with right of way when riding a wave, as mentioned, there are none...

The launch and land zones have been in place since 2015 and are still in place. Go back through the forums to find out why, and the risk of kiting being banned at the time that a lot of members worked hard to avoid. Reference for North/South boundaries:

I'd say it's just a matter of time before something happens at Duchies. I have seen several near misses in the last 3 days with kiters riding South of the playground then jumping downwind. Yesterday some clown with a blue helmet nearly wiped out several people with his antics.
I am surprised none of the other kiters pull these people up on it. If that proposal to ban kiteboarding at this section of the beach gets resurrected by council everyone will have to deal with the consequences.

I can't speak for other councils, but authority extends 200m offshore for Stirling and Joondalup under the state legislation

Which I think is why people keep bringing it up. KiteWA agreed to a kite zone from the Playground to just south of Isolators surf break.
Given the recent behaviour it's going to continue to be an issue. Sigh but - two days ago a tourist walked up and asked where he should go and was thus informed. How lovely if everyone did and old kiters didn't shout down the discussion. People like him and Chemtrails are tops.
This is really an area where Kiteboarding WA could step up and promote knowledge- arrange signage with local councils and put out this stuff on newsletters. I hear absolutely nothing from them in between renewals.
Clear signage in popular areas allows locals, visitors and non-kiters alike to know whats in place.
My first comment was after a particular brand's team riders were kiting at city beach south end in between the flags and trigg at the main break.
