Hi All,
Just joined today, I finally went and bought my gear after doing some lessons with WA surf at start of the year. I managed to get up and moving but only for a few metres, so...
* Does anyone have advice for where in northern 'burbs are good beaches to get some practice and get a feel for my kite again? I've been looking at Pinnaroo Pt, Mulalloo northern end and Quinns and north.
* Any advice with respect to wind speeds for different levels of experience? As a beginner, I'm thinking 15-22kn on a 12m Convert kite would be good for me without being too stressful. I think I'll be practicising my body dragging for awhile first anyways....
* I've been reading up on board leashes and it looks like a universal no-no, but I'll prob get myself a helmet soon anyway.
That's about it....I'm contemplating sewing a big L-plate onto my wetty too...lol
Andrew
Pinnaroo is a good spot to get started and once the season starts there will be quite a few kiters down there - not sure when the sea breezes will start but you will probably have a bit of a wait for things to kick off.
best of luck anyway
...and what would people suggest are good wind ranges for a 12m kite? i.e. "blowy enough to get
it up" through to "not suicidal"
Hi Andrew, Pinnaroo/Mullaloo is my usual spot. It is pretty good, specially if you live in the area. At Pinnaroo, crowd is very friendly and respectful as everyone in for a good time. Ranges from all level. I have started at pinnaroo with AKS (Ed/Darren etc) and they were great. There are no waves, and if you want waves you need to go down further towars mullaloo (well for decent surf that is when condition permits).
I have seen from another of your post that you may have taken these guys (akfor a refresher, which doesnt hurt. If not, well I can suggest 1 of the river spots (melville, point walter). I did a lot of the river this winter and I find it quite pleasant to try new things (specially if you want get familiar with your gear).
Helmet is great; against the sun, boards and surfer ears during winter. Gath are pretty good, local and comfortable (I had mine for 2 years...).
Anyway, will see you around at Pinnaroo... it feels like the season is picking up (had a couple of session lately)...
Cheers
Jim
Well, I did my refresher down at Point Walter on Sunday morning before the wind died. Only a few guys out. Thanks to the young fellas who gave me some tips when I was practicing my relaunching.
Hopefully I'll see a few of you guys out at Pinnaroo and Mullaloo when the SWers start to kick in. Although I gotta say I'm loving the heat at the moment.
I get torn between sports because when it's flat I can go diving and when it's windy I can kite.
