Kited Lancelin for the first time today. Did not launch in the no go and stayed clear of the windsurf schools "eclusion zone'" and still ended up having a screaming match out on the reef with a oldtymer. Still not sure what I have done wrong. Windsurfed for 10 years and kited for the last 10 all over the world and never had a problem. None of the other windsurfers seem to have minded me. Asking on the beach and searching seabreeze I see endless threads on runnings with the gustapel dating back to 2004. Unbelievebale that he should still be at it.![]()
Absolute nightmare and one of the main reasons I really dislike Lancelin for kiting.
Just wait it out till he dies ![]()
Or get him a nice kitesurfing girlfriend!

There are a couple of grumpies other than Werner, are you sure it was him before you give him a spray on here?
did I ever mention the word Werner.....before you spray.
the irony is that I am thinking of getting a windsurfing rig again. so watch out all you kitesurfers stay away from main break else you will be getting a mouth full from me![}:)]
I was kooking out on the sandbar this weekend in lano. When this really friendly guy asked me if we were aloud to kite here.. So I said sure mate it's all good just don't launch your kite down there on the grass. Generally kites stick to this area but if you wanna go venture off it's the ocean mate. No single group owns it. Now it was my first time on the otherside of the fence this weekend. The guy gave me some really helpfull tips and helped me launch my kite. I then bodydraged down past windsurfer beach. Cause that's what I'm doing in the ocean today. Now if anybody told me I wasn't allowed to I would have told em where to stick it. Now so I walked back up the beach through the park carring my kite. And if anybody had said to me I could not do that I would have told them where to stick it. When I got back to the sand bar this friendly bloke was just about all set to go and comes over and gives me a few more pointers. Thanks heaps dude. Anyway off he went. My wife then told me that he was down at the park on windsurfer beach with his wife and kids. Pumping up his kite. When some bloke come up to him and said to him you better not do that here. The friendly guy then said I'm just pumping it up. My wife and kids are here, going to walk it down to the sand bar. The bloke them said to him I sternly advise you not to because somebody might do some to your car..ie let your tires down.
Now this is out of hand. A guy with his family at the beach new to Australia and getting this kind of vibe from us is uncalled for. Get a life. The beached area's are for all people to enjoy. My taxes and your taxes. If I want to pump my kite up on the lawn then I will. And if anybody told me different I would tell them were to stick it.
Ummm. An interesting one! It sounds like the really friendly guy is playing devil's advocate. With the 'no kites here sign' it is unlikely he is oblivious to the fact one would feel extremely uncomfortable pumping up in the grassy spot where all the windsurfers rig although if my family were there I woud feel justified in hanging out with the kite in its bag. Also, it is quite a hike from that area to the point with a pumped up kite. It sounds like there is more to this account than meets the eye.
Lano is a great spot and the action is out the back not really in the launching zone imho. In going there I would hope to avoid confrontation with the windsurfers yet still bag more than my fairshare of waves.![]()
Most others seem to respect no kites in the park and can get down to the point to pump up and launch, why is there a few 'special' people that don't give a toss? If you don't want to take your car on the beach it's only a 300 metre walk.
And for the record, I'm not a windsurfer.
Chris I see you are all for peace and justice between polies and kites in Lancelin and I respect you for that. But to give someone stick just because he pumped his kite in a certain area is a bit farfetched. Reminds me of school yard politics and on the other end of the scale full blown racism. No diffirent to giving someone a mouth full because he surf, sail or kite a certain area that you believe belong to you, regardless of what accent you have.
