Please, can you help us with the information concerning see temperature and kite size? Me and my girlfriend are coming in West Australia 14th of December and are planning to stay till 5th of January. We are planning kitesurfing trip from Perth to Lancelin, Gerladton, maybe Monky Mia and down to Margareth River. We are both kitesurfing (my weight 75 kg, her weight 55 kg). Which kite size do you recommended for us? We have C-kite Naish Torch 8, 10 and 12. What about see temperature at that time. Will 4mm long legs and short arms be ok? I haven’t mention that we are from Slovenia and will be very thankful for any kind of information.

You would get more replies if you posted in the kitesurfing / general section. This section is for the WA Association topics and not as many people read it.

You will be here in the Summer, mate, you will not need a wettie - warm winds and warm water. A rash vest (thin lycra top) and board shorts will be all that you need for Perth. Maybe down South at Margaret River it will be a little more colder and you might get some use of the wettie. Up North - even warmer - just bathers.

Its difficult to say what kite to bring, it depends on you skill factor. To give you an idea - there will be many days in Perth at around 18-22 knots. It will often blow up 25-28 knots. Up North where you want to go it will be even stronger and you girlfriend may even be a bit overpowered on the 8.

However, it will be half-way through the season, and the winds usually start to drop off a little bit in the new year. If you can, I would bring all 3 kites and you would have most days covered.

If you can only bring 2, bring the 2 that you both can do the 18-25 knot range in. As you are on holiday, you can pick the time of day to kite. In general, the seabreeze comes in at 1/2 pm and then gradually builds up in strength. So, you would just need to get out early when it comes in, have a couple of hours on the water but be prepared to stop if it goes over the top of your range.

Just my opinion - its better to have a bigger kite then smaller kite on holiday. You can mostly always find a time of day when the wind will be low enough for the bigger kite but you can't always find the higher wind for the smaller kite, if that makes sense

Another suggestion, you are here only for a few weeks, its a long way between the Northern spots you want to go to and Margaret River (MR). You will be spending most of your time driving. It's country roads - not AutoRoutes like you will be used to in Europe. Whilst its a beautiful place, there aren't that many kitesurfing spots in the region of MR and the ones that are there are wild - for advanced kite surfers only. You would be better to concentrate on a couple of places to maximise your kite time.

Cheers.
