Hello all,

Need your help please. I am coming out to Perth in Feb 2010 for a month possibly 5 weeks and the aim is to purely kitesurf. I have been kiting for 6 months now, I can happily kitesurf in chop but enjoy flat water.

So far I think that I will spend a week in Perth/ Freemantle and then head out afterwards.

Can you guys and girls give me info on some good places to kitesurf in the Perth area and then where you think I should go afterwards.
I will prob be travelling on my own and would need to use public transport and stay in backpackers accomodation.

Would be cool if you could advise me on some good backpackers.

Would be very cool if any kiters in Perth or WA would like to hook up and kite with a happy, friendly pommie chap.

look forward to all your help,

Daz

Hey Daz,
yeah there are plenty of us out here that kite (pommes that is), plenty of cheap backpackers in Perth just google really. With regards to kiting spots you got thousands of miles of pristine coast. A group of us internationals, kites at Pinnaroo/Mullaloo,perth northern suburbs (flat/choppy small swell) theres a kite school there so its beginner friendly, brighton/scarborough for more challenging swell. if you head south there are plenty of spots Woodies for world class flat water, and if you head north from perth, cervantes/geraldton where it blows its t**s off all season. Check out WAKSA website for a location guide. And by all means drop us a line when you get to town.

Safety Bay for flat water, further out than Woodman's Point though. (watch wind direction at Woodies to determine which of 3 spots to kite on - 1 is flat, the other 2 are small chop)

Use www.transperth.wa.gov.au/ to look up public transport options

Re. backpackers hostels, the ones we tried in Fremantle were relatively expensive and horrible!
Maybe Scarborough is better?

Otherwise, I recommend perth.gumtree.com.au/ for finding a room in shared house instead (search under short term). Cheaper and nicer but might be a challenge to organise before you get here.

We'll be gone by Feb but enjoy, many decent kite spots here as you can see from Location Guide on www.waksa.com
