Hey Guys,
I'll come to Geraldton in october for about 3 month. I would like to improve my freestyle/wakestyle skills as much as possible. Are there nice flat water spots with shallow water there? Maybe a lagoon or something?
Something where it's possible to stand for a few hundred meters?

Thanks in advance

Not really anything super flat in the immediate Geraldton area I found. With the right tide, swell and wind strength a few spots can be fairly smooth for the ocean. the spots I've looked at that look nice and smooth usually have shallow reef or are gusty (which sucks when you load up unhooked and it drops out)

I've moved back 50km north of Geraldton now and kite at Horrocks beach. Same as before right tide swell and around 20kn it gets flatter than anything I kited in gero. Port Gregory which is about an hour north of gero can get really flat I'm told. Haven't been up there myself yet. Coronation 25km north of gero is the other place to go. Had a few good days there usually packed out but. Crap launch and landing spot too. a 4x4 is handy and can pretty much explore for yourself then.

But nevertheless good places for improving freestyle? Will stay at coronation beach.

There's a cracker of a spot just south of Dongara, you'll have the place to yourself,
You just have to find it

You should consider going to shark bay if flat water and wind is what you are chasing.

I'll work as instructor in Geraldton and will stay at coronation beach. Hoped that there are some shallow, flatwater spots within a 60km radius.

Pretty sure you'll need to apply to Geraldton shire for a permit to teach, with that insurance and accreditation may be requested, also your best spot is a windsurf zone, so you may need to move north, on a decent tide quite narrow beach

December- in a van in 45 degrees will be fun. There is No Water & Power available. Toilets are long drops.

Speak to the Chapman Valley Shire.

As for running a business on the beach, I'd check that out first.

Coronations is fine if you are intermediate - as a beginner, there isn't any shallow water, the launching is sketchy, can be weedy- and there might be regulations you would need to adhere too.

Its a fun place to kite. And a very raw part of Australia. Head up north to the Pink lakes and get some great photos.

By the way, there is your flat water in the background.

South tarcoolah and point Moore are the 2 kite school locations. Unfortunately seppo does attract it's fair share of learners, particularly when there is swell it seems

Yes, will work at KiteWest.

But some people told me that there is shallow water at Coronation beach, also very flat cause of the coral bank?

Possible to surf at pink lake?

Good on you, Ben is a decent guy.
Work it out when you get here is my suggestion, point Moore where you will be working has some flattish water on the inside. Corro is primarily a mushy bump and jump spot but is very popular.
Port Gregory's pink lake is mostly an algae harvesting operation. Beautiful but industrial. The north end may be worth a go. Recommend you try Horrocks first as its closer.

strong easterlies yarra yarra, but you need to of had quality rainfall in the area, 2600klm2, also had some great sessions at the clay shooting club lake approx 3/4 klm2 just up the road, both are butter flat when windy

As Cauncy says there are some brilliant lakes when it's wet and there's good easterlies. Check out the shire of westonia website.

But honestly, just come and enjoy the place, figure it out, go with the flow.

Actually I meant Shire of Wongan, Lake Ninan is huge and full of water at the moment, be good in an Easterly. Yarra Yarra is closer to Geraldton though.
Seabreezes will be better on the coast though.

Haha yeah don't recall seeing any lakes around westonia when I was last there.
I was in wongan-ballidu early June and that lake looked amazing. I asked the shire if there are any hidden obstacles like fences, submerged vehicles etc but they reckon it's safe.

When did you kite there dusta?
