Hey all, i've been using seabreeze for sometime now but only just got around to joining in on the forums.
I've surfed for 10 years and got into kiting at the end of last summer. I just started getting into it and had some great sessions when the season ended, so am frothing to hit hard this season! (not up for the winter fronts just yet!).
I mainly went up to safety bay last season but as i live in mandurah am keen to keep it local! Just wondered if there's anyone who lives around mandurah thats keen for a kite sometime?
Give me a holla!
If you keep riding safety bay im sure we'll meet. I plan to spend alot of time there this season. If your up downwinders etc PM me. cheers
slackster
I am a newbie this season and am super keen do after work flys around mandurah. I am sure you have been sussing out the same spots i have!!!
Waveslave keep it local and delete your post, I have already heard of your spot from a nonkiter!!!!! and i have not even had my first lesson yet!!!
see you there.
^^ perhaps the non-kiter told you because he like everyone else saw kites flying from the main drag going over the bridge . Its never been a local secret.
Yeah fair call!!!! kites flying in the air are a pretty obvious give away.
just getting a little defensive of me new found sport,, surfing is so crowded now days and that, especially when you dont get time off much... just watch the inevitable crush of kite surfing there will be in the next ten years. Never been a fan of competing and media promoting crowds making my fun time a competitive painful frustrating experience. Not that there is much I can do about it except winge occasionally. sorry about that.
see ya there
charge as hard as you can
coz god damn its FuN!!
G,day mate. I too have just started kiting after some basic lessons end of last summer, ive been hammering myself in the shallows down at Wannanup for the last couple of weeks,Ill be the one way down wind of every one else wearing a Red boyany vest doing some interesting 'Russell Coyt' impersonations.
Say Gday and feel free to give me some advise. Cheers .
Waveslave- thanks so much for the advice on where to go in Mandurah, i especially like the part about being stupidly safe! Am just beginning and tips like that are awesome:) What wind direction is the best for kiting at Wannanup (as a newbie!)?
Generally anything with S or E in it is the go.
Not trying to deter, you may already know. Though be careful of several things;
This time of year sees a mega spring bloom of brown algae on the estuary. Thick blankets of fine snot like stuff that love the warm shallows. You cant always see it from the surface, but drop your kite in it and it clings to your lines, anchoring your kite.
A right of passage with this spot is getting stung by these two little critters. Devils are common as, the pain subsides soon enough (like a wasp). Cob's will see you lining up for a local though.
