Hey, about a year ago I noticed a pain in my ankle when landing anything unhooked which got progressively worse and to cut a long story short, I have an avulsed ankle ligament.
I was wondering if anyone on here has had anything done by an orthopaedic surgeon on their ankle and could recommend a good surgeon to get the op done? Would appreciate any comments, there doesn't appear to be a huge amount of feedback for Perth orthopaedic surgeons specialising in ankles online. My doctor gave me a few recommendations but it's hard to have any confidence when he just pulled 5 names from a book without really knowing who they were.
Thanks
You could check with a couple of the good local sports physios that work with AFL teams. They usually know who gets the best results for different ortho injuries.
Have you been told your injury requires surgery???
My physio advised me to avoid surgery.
I don't know what a avulsed ankle ligament is but my ankles are bad mainly due to lack of flexibility from injury and my advice is to get onto a good physio and strengthen your ankles and supporting infrastructure and see how that goes before thinking about surgery.
Hopefully that's an option.
My GP said I should see an orthopaedic surgeon, haven't necessarily been told I need surgery yet but I have effectively snapped a ligament in my ankle so we will see. Have an appointment booked with Reza as recommended above, will probably get a second opinion from one recommended from a sports physio as Mark said just to confirm everything if I do end up being told I need surgery.
I had an avulsed ankle ligament (ie it took a small piece of bone off rather than snapping) about 30 years back. Had very good treatment next day with a sports physio - tightly taped and regular physio plus ice and ultrasound treatment. Didn't require surgery and had a full recovery. Others I know did require surgery to reattach the bone. Really depends on the severity and which ligament. Treatment sooner rather than later is best. Hope it all goes well.
