I am a beginner in Kitesurfing, will be in Albany from January to April.
Are there any suitable and safe places for beginners (I did a course) and which size of kite would you recommend?
If there is another beginner or people doing Kitesurfing regularly just text me.
P.S. will have my own car so I could drive a little bit, max. 100-200km.
Cheers
There used to be a website but seems to have disapeared.
Kite on easterlies at the spit, near the distillery. Head there one arvo on a windy day, there'll be others there.

Thanks bene definitely gonna try it.
I forgot to mention I am around 70kg, 185cm and will be using a big board for the beginning.
Maybe there is someone who can recommend me kite size.
Cheers
Have you had lessons? It's not like kiting in predictable Perth conditions. Get as much time in the water in Perth before coming down. South coast you are dealing with the following:
- Major wind shadows at most spots;
- Variable winds one day to the next;
- Forecasts which don't eventuate;
- Gusts and general fickleness in the wind;
- Changing wind directions.
...and that's for the safe spots which don't face S/SW.
As for kite sizes 7/9/12 would be ideal, but 9/12 will cover you sufficiently. One kite I would go 12m and avoid the days over 20 knots. There seem to be a lot of days around the 15 knot range, and not so many around 25 knots.
Having lessons right now. Riding left and right is k.
Going to have a self rescue lesson today.
And hopefully a lot of sessions on the river in the next couple of days.
So you would say it is safe there or not for someone with my abilities?
Thanks again.
Definitely safe! Just not as easy/predictable as Perth.
